1979 world land speed record M1 turns up!

Post by GRNSHRK » Mon Apr 08, 2019 10:04 pm

Just stumbled upon this interesting article, apparently this was the world land speed record holder in 1979

Here's the article...

And, a pic, of course

Enjoy

Thanks Bobbo, that's cool, I like that car a lot. Very interesting story too.

I reckon it looks better in the current pics, just black and covered in dust, rather than with the sponsor stickers all over it, but I think that bodywork makeover is amazing, even more so given it was built that way in 1979.

I've seen this in the flesh and it's an unmitigated tip and moneypit. It is everything you don't want in an M1, and very little of an original M1.

The icing on the cake was the supposed 'World Record' isn't, because it wasn't officially ratified.

1982 BMW 635CSiA (1 of 100's left from the 1000's made and still valiantly fighting against a rusty grave)

What an interesting article. I’ve never heard of this one before. I wonder what the hammer will fall on? I wouldn’t be surprised to see it fetch £250-300k!

I'd guess a fair bit more considering what road going M1s are fetching these days.
