This is how we were able to get back on track. Thanks Leonard and Luke.

My kind of paint job. My first car a 67 Cougar XR7 289HP/Auto that I paid $300 for, needed body work. My dad, who was amechanic but has done some body and fender work, and I did that in the driveway, then sprayed it red with paint my dad got from a friend at a body shop. The paint didn't match the car it was intended for, but we simply resprayed the car side (it was already red) and it was good enough. Did the painting in the driveway, open air and added drying agent to help keep bugs off.

Guess that explains my urge to buy old cars...

Sold the car 5 years later for $500.
The Buttonwillow race was good. One of the drivers put a wheel off at the exit of the bus stop, spun the car, and was collected by a Volvo. Took a hit to the left-front wheel and fender. Bent the strut, tie rod, wheel, and...we got it back on track within a few hours.
:D
You guys are having too much fun. I wish they did this in my neck of the woods.

Today was a busy car day. I mounted new Wheels and tires to my recently purchased 79 Euro 635. Then drove out to the shop to help my brother repair an inferior American car. Evidently some rodents ate the wires going to the crank sensor on the backside of the front wheel drive V6 motor. Mean while oversaw my son Luke replace all the fuel injection lines on my other us 1980 633, they were only two years old and failing. In the middle of all this received a text requesting some suspension parts off of our parts car. Evidently our friends at Buttonwillow had a little off-road Excursion. Wishing we were there of course, hoping there's video. Had the parts removed 5 minutes before the guys showed up so they could head right back to the track. Finished off the evening with a test drive to pick up my mom for family dinner. I think I should have Luke full-time mechanic for me the cars never run so well. Maybe sometime tomorrow I'll have time 2 look at the underside of my new Euro Car.
Sorry for the lengthy post, but it was a busy day.
I promise to send pics as soon as I figure out how..

Leonard that oil filter housing looks like it's from a very late car. Maybe you have better than you think. An engine transplant over the years? That surely isn't an early filter set up

You don't miss much do you Bert?

Thats a 87 b35 motor with an unknown cam, the way I got the car with zero history. It is very strong, and addictive.
Also has oversized anti-rollbars with delrin bushings, it's alot of fun.
It's behind my new 79 euro in the pic below without the air dam. Luke was enjoying it on the drive we just did on the 3rd.
Seats and the front air-dam are the next priority for that car, it gets sketchy at speed.

The Shark was running on the warm side during our recent triple digit weather. So, I decided it was probably time to do an overhaul on the cooling system. I Replaced the radiator, water pump, fan clutch, thermostat, all the hoses and T fitting, belts and refilled with blue coolant. As normally happens, one project begets another. The bleeder screw on the thermostat cover was seized and one of the bolt hole threads in the thermostat housing stripped. At least that's an easy swap.

Finally got around to some long overdue replacements on my M635.

Front ARB droplinks and bushes and bush retainers - as it happens the bush retainers were ok but I replaced them anyway; getting them back on was a bit of a saga though. small bottle jack to compress the bush and retainer up to the chassis, water pump pliers to push the retainer back far enough and then a screwdriver to align the bolt hole before using my mutant third hand to grab the bolt and start threading it home without buggering the thread.

Next job was simple, replacing the rusted-away exhaust support bracket on the back of the gearbox.

Over the weekend I'm going to try and adjust the handbrake inside the rear discs - something I've never done in nearly thirty years of E24 ownership - proving I will still be learning something new some days.

What's better than a one-E24 Lemons Team?

A two-E24 Lemons team...

Yup, Geoff went and scored us another E24, this one previously raced. Cost: three cases of beer. May even run with a little work. It's a 1984 633. Gets us a spare trans, maybe gets us into Motronic and out of our Jetronic. I'll know more early next year...

We may have some parts available if anybody is interested. I think Geoff only wants the rear suspension. We will keep the engine and trans. Not sure of the condition of any of the stuff on it, but we will be happy to give you great parts deals. The community has been very good to us; so, we want to stay in your good graces...and keep racing.

M635 MoT passed with only a mild last minute panic due to no brake lights - some rapid stabs of the pedal freed off the brake light switch without having to remove the trim panels to actually get to it.

There was nothing else to do on a Covid Thanksgiving Day so (to my wife's chagrin) I was in the garage working on the 6er. Installed new tie rods, center link, idler arm, and upper control (thrust) arms. All Lemforder parts except for the center link which is BMW. I also purchased the beefy E32/750iL bushings from Korman who had machined them to fit the E24 control arms, and I had them pressed in by a local machine shop. I didn't replace the lower control arms because I had installed them less than 20K ago and they're still like new. So now the front end should be nice and tight.

Prior to doing this job I had about 1/2" play in my steering which was causing some serious wobbling under braking. I have an appointment at an excellent alignment shop for Tuesday and then it'll be out for a drive to see how much improvement there is.

Drove it. Well, cleaned it up first, then drove it. It was blocked in the garage all weekend by the RV, which went back into storage today. I seem to have conveniently left my phone in the RV. Good excuse to get it, top up the fuel tank and hit the hardware store.

The last project was to jack it up and find the source of the annoying intermittent clunk. Turned out to be a slightly loose sway bar link. Next is a trip to Sebring for the vintage races next weekend. the reason for the clean up today.

Well, since this bubbled to the top again I reckon I'll chime in.

I just finished cleaning and polishing the tail light lenses and frames I got from Elias. They look great, Thanks Elias. Started to install them and decided it was time to refinish the reflectors. My chrome paint job from, probably 15 years ago needs a redo. I'll pull them apart on Sunday and get them pretty and installed next week sometime.

M6 back from 'The Man' after a suspension and steering links/joints/rods/arms refresh - it feels much better again. Small list of fettling jobs and tiny upgrades to keep me amused for the summer. It drives wonderfully though and the engine is of course, glorious.

Took my '88 Highline CSi to Rich at Fritz Bits who is in the process of fitting one of his stainless steel exhaust manifolds and exhaust systems. He is also remapping the ECU, and installing new Bilstein B6 shock absorbers and top mounts etc.

As part of the remap he is also interrogating the systems to try and find out where my mystery poor idling and cutting out problem is coming from.

Finally in June he is fitting a 5 speed manual Getrag gearbox which has been reconditioned by Neil at All Gears, Worksop.

Can't wait to get the car back and see how these modifications transform the car.

Will post results later

Finally got my exhaust repaired. It had been hanging low and prevented me from parking on one side of my garage due to the slope.

Had the shop remove the resonator and raise the exhaust by about 1.5in.

With the resonator and cat gone I gained about 3in of clearance!

A happy day yesterday - after a non-start last September and either no time or bad weather against me I managed to fix my ancient 635CSi yesterday. The fix itself was easy - an engine reference sensor - and fortunately I both had one spare and the old one came out relatively easily. On completing the work it fired up straight away and kept a lovely steady idle.

The other issues will take some time or money to sort out. Three out of four windows are now reluctant to move, the brakes are not great, the speedo doesn't work and the inner wings are going to need some welding soon.

The sad thing is, after owning this car for the best part of 25 years I now realise I can't give it the time and investment it needs to keep it nice. I've washed it and put it back under the cover but I have to think about advertising it for sale now - it could still be a great car and has all the nice and rare bits on it; M635CSi front and rear spoilers, and the wheel arch extensions; M steering wheel, rear headrests, genuine Recaro seats, as well as all the nice touches like full toolkit, great chrome, E24 emblazoned first aid kit and so on.

Now I'm able to start it up I might be able to sort a few things out this summer but ultimately I have to face reality about the cars future - with three other garage queens I simply don't have the time for this last car.
