'Observer' coupe for sale
Did my eyes deceive me or did I see the one and only 'Observer' Six Series coupe advertised for sale in the back of the latest 'BMW Car' magazine
I think it said 'offers' - I've jus re-read a brochure stating that it cost over 100k on top of the 20k+ for the car back in 1982 - a shocking amount of money - imagine spending 50k now on a 645i and then over 200k on converting it Simply astounding.
Anyway, anyone interested in calling up
As always, no connection to the seller.

What 'extras' were added for the extra wonga then?sharkfan wrote:Did my eyes deceive me or did I see the one and only 'Observer' Six Series coupe advertised for sale in the back of the latest 'BMW Car' magazine

007 bits n pieces.......??!!
Would you believe just two huge glass roof and rear window sections that slid away into an increased height bootline (a la E30 M3) to provide almost 'a convertible experience' (sic). What 'extras' were added for the extra wonga then?
As I said, a shocking amount of money - and as far as I'm aware there were no others made after the prototype - quite interesting but pretty amature when you consider Baur and other were doing full convertibles.
I've got a brochure but it doesn't show the 'convertible experience'.
Has anyone ever seen it for real ?
Sharkfan.

Check the date this thread started. I suspect that was when Clayton was trying to sell it first. I saw it at a meet a few years ago and was informed the roof mechanisms had been removed after the car initially failed to sell following the show.cecotto479 wrote:I saw it at Clayton's place a few years ago. Interesting car. He was talking of selling then. I wonder if he still owns it. I don't think it was complete/fully working then.
I suspect Clayton still owns it as 4Star sell on a commission basis.
Clayton Harrison was asking "only" eight grand for it when he was trying to sell it himself. Clearly Barney at 4-Star Classics is adding his usual humongous "Leg Ends" mark-up to take it up to the full thirty grand.
Although the website blurb refers to the retractable roof, the photos are very coy about showing the actual roof area. It is unclear whether the roof has in fact been restored to how it was when first shown, or whether the thing is still "static" as it was when Clayton displayed it.
At the end of the day, 'tis a nearly bog-standard E24 with low (possibly disputed, as I thought it had done a bit more than the advertised 18000 miles) mileage and some interesting bits.
Probably worth eight grand.

Ivan, Barney is not at 4-Star. His company is Classic Heroes.Horsetan wrote: Clearly Barney at 4-Star Classics is adding his usual humongous "Leg Ends" mark-up to take it up to the full thirty grand.
Last time I talked to Clayton I'm sure he told me he had sold the car to 4 Star.
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!
