Okay I confess you have found me now.

As Patrik (m635forever) told you i live in Sweden, and you have seen a couple of photos.

I bought my 635 1 April 2003 and it looked just like this.

Image

Image

In really bad shape.
Image

The car were abused by 18 previous owners and had 250000 km or 156?000 miles.

It cost me about 4000 Us dollars (26?500 Kronor)

In autumn 2005 restoration were finished and i drove it for a couple of years, back then it looked like this.

Image

Image

During winter 2007-2008 i built a new engine wich is based on a e34 535 engine.

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

Image

OOOHh yes thers a lot of work done.....

And not only on the Bi-Turbo engine, also fibreglass Front and Rear bumper, including rear spoiler.

Image

Pictures from 2008 and now i also have OZ-Racing X-spoke 17x8,5" split rims. (Extremly rare)

Image

Image

Other small mods.

Image

In winter 2008-2009 i installed a VEMS engine ECU
(Earlier i used Motronic standard ECU and e34 m5 fuel injectors)

Image

Image

Fuel catch tank.

Image

Larger fuel pump.

Image

Winter 2009-2010

Change of rims to OZ-Racing Futura 8,5+10x17" (Wide rear rims)

Image

Of course in bad shape when i bought them.

Here TIG welded outer rim, badly scratched.

Image

And cracked.

Image

Getting there...

Image

Image

Image

Nice :)

Image

In 2010 i ran the my 635 in a Dynapack Dyno.

Image

With slightly higher heart rate than normal looking at my Laptop.

Image

And this were the result.

Image

360hp@wheel hubs (approximately 390hp@Flywheel = 286kW)
And 595 Nm

This were achieved with 1.0 bar boost pressure or 14,5 psi as you know it.

This is the SHORT story about me and my BMW 635 from 1983.

Any bad grammar, spelling or choice of words is my own, but i think its better then using Google translator...

Maybe i continue the story up to 2012 later on, my brain is starting to overheat writing all this in english.

good work fella!

nice one!

I especially like the fibreglass front spoiler; do you still have the mould or the buck that you used?

Now, if your winters were not so bloody awful your cars wouldn't be as nice, now would they?

cheers

@ Brucey

I actually dont have a mould for front bumper, this is the only one so far.

There are for sure pros and cons with our winters !
As you say November - Mars is "Garage season" :)
Actually the crayziest cars in Sweden tend to be far up north eaven above the Polar Circle.

And fuel consumption? l/100km?
daniel-635

Post by daniel-635 »

Well about the fuel consumption, let's say it's variable.

When cruising 90 km/h 9,5l/100km almost down to 9l
Usually daily driving results in 11-13 l/100km.
But up to 16 has been measured [-X

Teoretichly i can empty a full 70 litres fuel tank in 35 minutes :P

How to break with all this power ?

Rear brakes is stock BMW e34 300x10 (bolt on) brakes.

Front brakes is however more complicated.

Drilled discs from BMW e46 330i which are 325x25mm
Combined with slightly modified BMW e39 Aluminium calipers.

Image

Mounted in a CNC milled custom bracket. (Together with test parts)

Image

Image

Sadly I had to reduce the thickness of the brake pads due to a too tigth fit towards my OZ-Racing rim, or actually the screws.

Image

Image

But, it has been proven to work very well !

To be able to handle the car you also have to sit tight behind the steering wheel, e36m3 black leather seats is a nice upgrade

Image

Especially from this #-o

Image

Whaaat do they fit "bolt on" ? No they do NOT

Next update problably will be about the chassis

Gorgeous car and excellent work, Daniel.

I guess you are familiar with this engine builder:
vsmotor.no

As much as I hate the nordic winter, something good may come out of it:
Not e24, but have a peek at these, this is serious stuff:

http://www.vsmotor.no/en_videos.html

Some more stuff with the E34 may be found on Youtube.
Cheers,

Thomas

Does it really need that much rollcenter correction?
Looks like a 30-35 mm spacer.
daniel-635

Post by daniel-635 »

ThomasFB

Thery are 27mm thick

Image

And here you can see the theory behind them.

Image

White = standard height
Blue = 40mm lowerd without RC corr.
Red = 40mm lowerd with RC corr.

I'm no chassis expert, but the car feels better especially i fast corners.

What do you think ?
ThomasFB

Post by ThomasFB »

Daniel, I'm no expert either, but been around "elsewhere" for some time.
A 40 mm lowered BMW usually needs some correction, as the lower control arm will not be in optimal position without.
I flipped back to the images posted in this tread, and your ride height is quite low, so a spacer will do good.
You get your camber back to where it should be and lower control arm optimized, resulting in more stability in fast corners.

Another main concern would be the rear, you can't go too low without compromising traction and overall stability. In some sitations there is a significant rear-end-steer on these cars, and lowering will have an affect on the behavior.

Geometry can be corrected by altering mount positions, but that usually requires welding. (unless you find a genious way around this with offset/excenter bushings).
All- in- all, you have a really nice vehicle there.
