Rarest 635 and why.

Post by 2I6es »

Given you had the money and given said vehicle was available for sale, what is the rarest 635 but more importantly why. Is it because of lack of numbers produced or because of the provenance of the vehicle.

Please note one answer for road going vehicle and one for racing vehicle.

Cheers Vinny - just curious!

For me in a rhd environment, it would have to be 0760001 then 002. These two M635csi cars were purportedly broken up and so apparently no longer exist. Just imagine if either was discovered in a dusty storage facility somewhere in (West) Germany having been carefully laid up and in perfect condition!

As far as a racing cehicle is concerned, maybe a Schnitzer or Alpina turbo?

Of course, if we could stretch it to a 635 engined car, it could only be an M1 in both categories

The rarest 635? Money no object? Easy. One with absolutely no rust anywhere.

Like leprechauns, logic tells us that they they must exist, but nobody has ever seen one and nobody ever will.

You come across rust free E24's in Australia.

This could be the rarest ever when built!! I was trying to persuade him to sell it to me but he wanted too much. Pity,it would have been a cracking project.

An M car that could actually do the 158mph claimed by BMW?

Or more seriously, anyone with a B9/B10, let alone a B7 must feel pretty special!

So, all I have to do is find a low km manual that is rust free and I have a rarity of a BMW 635 - interesting.

The rarest would be an '88/'89 (m30b35) 5 speed as they didn't make many of those 635's, most were highline autos.

More rare are the alpina and hartge cars (technically they were tuned 635's).

Hate to burst your bubble, cecotto but My 85 Euro has ZERO rust anywhere. None, Zippo, nada and I can get GripGreg and a few folks from Mye28 to attest to that. Fact is, cars that were imported directly to SoCal, rarely have rust IF they were garaged, as mine was/is. In the 4 years that I have owned it, it has been rained on exactly twice and is blown dry after each wash/wax. So yeah, they DO exist.

Now if I can just get the $$ to repair the damn thing, I'll take more rustless pictures of it.

Keep the shiny side up

Phillip

PS I don't know what I'd consider the rarest but an 88/89 5 speed has gotta be right up there.

I guess i MUST be the only one with a rust free 635 then .
But at the moment its not running, give me another year and it will be look show room new. I have it stored in my garage with a stripped out interior. I seriously doubt that this 85 Euro is the last of its kind without rust. I am undecided if I will keep it in the original Cosmo Blau Metallic.

Well, its starting to look as if there are more rust-free cars than rusty ones out there :-k

Surely that means that the rusty cars are rarer, so obviously worth much more

Rarest, probably the Alpina B7 Turbo Coupe that was professionally converted to a Convertible by ABC Exclusive, the only E24 of it's type.

I have what I believe to be (although I am happy to be corrected) the only right hand drive manual Alpina B9 coupe. So it may be unique and it is rare. But you know what? Many specific specs of e24 will be unique and each will have their particular following. They're all special.

Saw an ad for a convertible E24, it looked pretty good! I know it's rare as they never made them officially...

Indeed! Same style rims that were on the 635 that Wheeler Dealers worked over a few years ago. Yuck. I believe they attributed the wheel style to cars that went to Canada (?) I didn't realize Canadian 6er drivers were blind!

Thems iz the wheels that were on my 6er when I purchased it, 4 years ago and I could not WAIT to remove those abominations! And it wasn't a Canadian vehicle. Seems the PO liked em. ~shudder~

But I did find a buyer, after a fashion. And they be gone from my sight. Replaced by the much more palatable style 5's.
