In the 50's yesterday and the battery came off the winter maintainer. She started right up and the temp stayed at the midpoint. New the real work begins.

Must be difficult having only seasonal use. I guess here in Australia our cars get used les in summer if they are not air conditioned

With me, it is more an issue of avoiding the winter salt bath as we use a lot on the roads. It takes some serious rain to cleanse the street so that my car doesn't rot away.

Installed a factory toggle switch that lets me enable/disable the automatic antenna without affecting my subwoofer amp. Now I can keep the antenna retracted whenever I'm not using the tuner. Installed it in one of the empty slots below the radio. Looks like it belongs there!

I did this many years ago; I found that the E28 fog light switch is perfect as you can also use the other side for something else.

Edit to add this picture; the E28 button is on the right of the defunct fader control. The left hand button set is an illuminated window button with the button heads changed for use as central locking.

Well on the subject of antennas, my radio burst a blood vessel today on arrival at work. I pressed the off button and nothing happened. Pressed it again, still nothing. Pressed every other button on the whole thing and all are completely unresponsive. Finally in desperation I ejected the removeable anti-theft face plate thinking that would switch it off, but no, it still kept on playing even with no face attached. Re-attached the face and now every single LED/light on the thing is illuminated all at once. Can't do anything with it. It's on all the time as long as the key is on and there's no way to switch it off or retract the antenna.

This is my second removeable face plate ALPINE head unit to go completely bung this way. I regret ever buying these pieces of crap. I learnt from the first one they're irrepairable too. Just gotta take them out and throw 'em away.

Well, to be honest, thee ole green shark always passed the sniff test, it was the pesky visual that had all of these "test only" guys panties in a bunch :roll:

Those who have been involved in this saga from the get go are aware that I was getting to the point that I was going to swap out those lovely long tube Stahl headers for proper exhaust manifolds, lord only knows what else it would have taken, to connect to my existing exhaust, which apparently, wasn't a problem for the CA smog police :-k

So, long story short, we're out last Friday evening with some friends, one of which used to own a shop, used to use this "guy" for smog testing, maybe you should check him out, what's the worst that he can say :-({|=

Off I go Saturday morning with my full set of paperwork in hand, 2 decades worth of passing smog tests, recent results from March, and the smog referee report *(yes, you read that right...) :-&

After a big sigh, he tells me to bring the car back Monday morning and he will take to another guy that will pass the test [-o<

I go to pick up the car after work, and he proceeds to tell me that he didn't even bring the car there, just my paperwork :shock:

WTF :evil:

But the good news, the cert was issued, uncle Bobbo was a few C-notes lighter in the wallet, and off I went \:D/

Sheesh, Ralph, if you're reading this, I still may want those manifolds and downpipes :-"

The last lot of gorilla glue lasted about ten years but yes, rear speaker pods - have a virtual beer on me!

Single bonnet strut replacement on the 635CSi.

I had replaced both of them about 5 years ago when I re-commissioned the car, but recently the bonnet has taken a few chunks out of my noggin so I ordered up a new pair. On replacing the first old one it was obvious it had absolutely no resistance at all, but when I checked the other old one it was perfectly hard. The bonnet now raises on the one old and one new strut from about 18" up - so I now have a spare.

Now the bonnet has stopped falling on my head (see above) I decided to replace the filter in the bottom of the power steering reservoir.

For not being touched in at least my 22 years of ownership and even more unlikely in its preceding younger years it was visually in pretty good condition.

Most of the extracted oil was in great condition so was re-used but the bottom cm or so did have a tiny amount of particles in it so was extracted and discarded.

More like yesterday, but I went out to my local track to spectate a track day hosted by our local Caffeine and Gasoline group. There were many amazing cars there, including a Formula Mazda which I was even allowed to sit in! But at the last session of the day, they had one slot open for a car to take the track, and there was no one else gridding up. So I put on all my gear (who doesn't bring their stuff to a track??) and drove up to the organizer and said "They need another car in this session". He replied with "Go for it", so I got some free track time just by showing up! :lol:

I turned a total of 5 laps, and the brakes were suffering. I cut lap 6 short when the pedal felt very spongy under heavy braking into a tight corner, but other than that the car was performing much better than expected on crummy, narrow all-season tires, with loads of excess weight! =D>

When I pulled in to a pit stall, there was a dark line from both my brakes where brake dust had poured out from the dust shield. There was also an odd bit of smoke and some fluid leaking down, but this was just overflowing coolant and was solved by letting the engine run with the hood up to stabilize temps and keep fluid circulating. Drove home like nothing ever happened [-o<

I think my brake master cylinder hates me now though.. I'll get to that sometime this summer. And no, I'll never be taking the car around the track ever again. Not this one, anyway

I lowered it! Got rid of the monster truck look up front! I fitted Blue-stripe E30 springs to lower the front about 1 - 1+1/4 inches, which would make the gap between the tire and the fender flare about an inch or less. Turned out perfectly! had to cut about 9-10mm off the top of the bump stops to keep similar handling, but I haven't done any aggressive driving to test them out yet. The springs were the same height, but the coils were about 1mm thinner on the E30 spring compared to the E24. I just did this yesterday as of writing, so the springs/struts may settle some after a week or so. But so far I'm really pleased with the result \:D/ My new signature is also post-surgery

been busy this week, done the following..

had the air-con re-gassed, didn't work at 1st but was a furred up spade connection under washer bottle.

bled brakes as had to pump them twice :lol: pedal feels amazing now!

serviced valve body on auto-box and fresh ATF/filter.

got 2nd key cut, fixed LED in main key and fixed glovebox torch 8)

Went for a car club run on the new Michelin ps4 tyres and ds2500 pads with motul fluid. No braking or handling issues. Just amplified my slipping clutch unfortunately.

Yes I’m from same area Dandenong ranges. Lots of nice roads all full of traffic and badly speed restricted

Not for the 6 specifically (will fit if need be) but building a useful set of bbs rs from my metrics.

Drove it .
Very early morning drive up into and through the Kerry Mountains .
My favourite drive on a morning like today. Stopped off in Sneem Co. Kerry for a leasurly coffee and then headed back passing no more than half a dozen cars in 40 miles .

Replaced the Vogtland springs and added IE camber plates.
Wheel balance and alignment.

I echo Robs sentiments about Ireland; a truly glorious place. We took a couple of weeks there a few years ago by car. Ferry to Dublin for a few days, thenst to Limerick, lunch with a long lost relative at Loghill on the banks of the Shannon, then onto Inch beach and around that area. Beautiful.

As to my 635CSi, it limps from one fix to another with a increasingly reluctant starter solenoid on hot starts.
