I bought a 85 Euro m6......

Post by brickwhite »

Well,

I'm not going to tell you how much I paid probably too much.

I've owned a 85 535i e28 but not an e24 and not one with the M88 engine. I took a gamble but we'll see.

I haven't found any rust in the usual spots and I was able to drive her home.

Anyone have a suggestion on where to start with a M6 --

the suspension is similar to the e28 but....

I'm thinking lots of reading.... Clean it, damn its dirty, then fluids, belts, plugs, gas, brakes, electrical, suspension, interior, exterior, etc...

Really don't have a history on the car. Looks like it was a Georgia car and was sold to Frosty and he moved it to St. Louis area around 04, but I really don't know.

A Euro should absolutely have an M88 and that is an M88 valve cover, which won't bolt onto an S38. The VIN lookup must be squirrelly.

The AFM is missing its cover, I have another cover.

And this car came with a Miller s38/m88 war Chip and MAF, New in box, but I haven't decided if I'll install it yet. Seems a little involved and worth some money.

Which I"ll need for this car.

Almost would seem that way but...
The vin lookup is right from BMW centernet
Both my M635's show a S38 in the vin decode also. Seems the decode has no clue of the M88.
I am kinda suprised the decode even works with euro cars

My M635's were built 10-84 and 5-84, these were all some of the first M635's...kinda cool!!

Frostie (don) Fries passed a couple weeks ago

I had the "experience" of meeting Frosty on one of his visits to AZ. Here's goodbye to a real character and a great guy.

You are not wrong, Mine is also listed as having the S38 engine but came with the M88.

Even RealOEM look up, when the last 7 digits of the VIN number are entered it shows all details correctly, except for the engine which is definitely a M88.
