Keyed!
New sunroof installed, all polished up and looking beautiful and then someone keys the bootlid and the o/s. Five separate scratches.
I parked the car in a neighbouring street so that I could service a mate's car: it was only there for five hours! Really nice area, definitely not a random act of vandalism.
MOT booked for 25th June, then it's up for sale to fund the last push on the M resto. A keyed car strikes me as a much less appealing buying opportunity.
I feel better for sharing! First time its happened in ten years of old BMW ownership; here's hoping it doesn't happen again.
Cheers,
Rob

Sorry to hear this - the little bastards ought to be made to pay.
One story I always remember is a chap who saw his car being keyed by a 15 y.o scrote who lived further down the road; he followed him home and remonstrated with the youth and his Dad who both stonewalled and denied everything.
He fixed his car, made a mental note and waited.
And waited.
5 years later, scrotey youth had a spanking new pride and joy......... his Dad had quite a nice car too........ but not for long.......
The Dad and the youth had forgotten about his wrongdoings but someone else hadn't.....the Dad and his youth couldn't figure out why both their cars had been targeted despite asking around the neighbourhood.

That's tragic !
This really nice area , is it possible that someone took umbrage at you parking in front of their house taking up what they consider to be their parking space ? I've seen it happen several times where the car is damaged and the owner thinks twice about parking there again, some strange people out there ........
I hope you manage to sort it out and get some kind of repair .
Good luck
Don

It's a shame some can't let other peoples property alone..
I wonder if they're ever thinking about how expensive it would be to repair before they do things like that or if it's "just another car" in their eyes..
A women once told me she got a door slammed into her car at a parkinglot, which dented her car. She told the owners of the other car to be more careful and stop doing it, they just looked at her and said: "Why..? It's just an old car.."
It doesn't matter that it's an old car! A scratch is a scratch whatever the cars age is.. It's the principle and value of things..
If you don't have to do it, don't do it!

Funny (not funny), I was talking to a friend of mine here in Dallas who was telling me how some people can act like real a$$holes when they see you driving a nice car.
I told him that we were lucky and if this was England, you wouldn't be able to leave your car anywhere without it getting keyed.
I suppose that supporting their income support cheques with your tax money is not enough, they want to be the only ones driving BMW's

Current Texas law....
Peaceable Journey
Gov. Perry also signed H.B. 1815 after passage by the 2007 Legislature, a bill that allows any Texas resident to carry a concealed handgun in the resident's motor vehicle without a CHL or other permit.[14] The bill revised Chapter 46, Section 2 of the Penal Code to state that it is in fact not "Unlawful Carry of a Weapon", as defined by the statute, for a person to carry a handgun while in a motor vehicle they own or control, or to carry while heading directly from the person's home to that car. However, lawful carry while in a vehicle requires these three critical qualifiers: (1) the weapon must not be in plain sight (in Texas law, "plain sight" and "concealed" are mutually exclusive opposing terms);[15] (2) the carrier cannot be involved in criminal activities, other than Class C traffic misdemeanors; and (3) the carrier cannot be a member of a criminal gang.[16][17]
Previous legislation (H.B. 823) enacted in the 2005 session of the Legislature had modified TPC 46.15 ("Non-Applicability") to include the "traveller assumption"; a law enforcement officer who encounters a firearm in a vehicle was required to presume that the driver of that vehicle was "travelling" under a pre-existing provision of 46.15, and thus the Unlawful Carry statute did not apply, absent evidence that the person was engaged in criminal activity, a member of a gang, or prohibited from possessing a firearm. However, attorneys and law enforcement officials in several municipalities including DA Chuck Rosenthal of Houston stated that they would continue to prosecute individuals found transporting firearms in their vehicles despite this presumption,[18] leading to the more forceful statement of non-applicability in the 2007 H.B. 1815.

Yep, there are two sides to every coin. I grew up in London and moved to the US at 26, first to GA and then to TX. Sure there are more shootings in Texas, but I can bet money that there are less muggings, stabbings, break-ins, battery, assaulting OAP's for their pension money etc.jacko wrote:No, but I think people may behave a bit differently as a result. I notice less "Road Rage" here than I did when I lived in CA.
Those kind of things happen quite often in London because the victims have no means of defending themselves. I'm sure that it's as likely to happen here Texas if the fear of getting shot did not have a balancing effect.

Wow, I saw Wattsmonkys car pre scratch and it was looking gorgeous. Also I know he has just had the rear nearside resprayed.
So sad, the truth is people like this are jealous. They are basically jealous because their lives are rubbish! They have no drive or ambition to better them selves and can't stand the idea that other people might have something good in their lives, that these idiots simply don't have the brain power to understand. They will have given every consideration to how much it will cost to put it right and pressed on regardlessly.
I once had a similar experience. I had just had my whole car resprayed and parked up in the furthest corner of a supermarket. As I came back to the car, got in to drive away a car pulled up next to me, the door swung open straight into my car.
I got out and my heart sank as I saw the damage to the five day old paint. I said in a very testy voice. Excuse me but you've just dented my car. The guys response was that he was sorry but it was just and old car. I went nuts!!!
I gave him a massive lecture on it being mine and its age was irrelevant. I basically chased him around his car screaming and swearing at him. I think it came as a shock because he got back into his car and drove away.
commiseration's to Rob

Just saw your sad news Rob and you have my commiserations.
The trouble is that is in our (once great) country, the trendy-lefty apologists will forgive any such actions with excuses (I won't bother to list them). If the offender gets caught, nothing is likely to happen to him as the Police will say its not in the public's best interests to prosecute. But you can if you want (that's a waste of time, by the way).
You try giving the perp. a thumping and you'll be arrested for assault in an instant, probably go to Court, have to pay damages and get a criminal record!
The thing is, if someone knew they'd get shot if they were caught keying a car, they just wouldn't do it, would they?
Just my 2c

Sadly a similar result would happen in Canada.Pod wrote:Just saw your sad news Rob and you have my commiserations.

So is shooting someone to death the right punishment for keying your car? Perhaps a good beating or caning (as in Singapore) is the proper remedy?

I would not say that it's the right punishment, but it is a good deterrent. The same people who do that commit other crimes and do so because they know they can get away with it. If you do catch them, at least you can keep them there until the police turn up.sansouci wrote:So is shooting someone to death the right punishment for keying your car?
