Who likes Moto Guzzi ?

Post by LandShark »

This was my queen. Now an obituary. 1985 Moto Guzzi v50 NATO. A retired dutch military police bike with a full 3 piece fairing. It was quite a headturner at the guzzi riders rally in new mexico.

I was waiting a stop light and witnessed 2 pickup trucks hit each other. I got hit by one truck that deflected and was plowed down the street. My broken leg is all healed now but the bike was totaled. I love guzzis just bit more than BMW airheads. Airheads are just a bit too cultivated and smooth! Naturally, I think old Honda motorcycles are great too. Still have a 1982 CX500 that has a motor that seems to enjoy abuse.

Lets see your bike shots!

Le sigh,

Waaaaay back in the day I crossed the US of A on my 1971 Honda 750 4. I put over 100K on that machine, thrashed it and its only fault was creaky coils that didn't handle being rained on and would cut out. Oh and the frame definitely had a hinge smack in the middle of it.

Here is the only pic I still have of the Thunder-lizard.

Wow Phillip, your bike certainly brought back memories, I had the CB250 in identical colours back in 1972. I couldn't afford the 750-4 just a dream. I loved the Honda bikes and now I've retired I decided to rekindle my love of motorcycling by purchasing a used Pan European ST1100.

David,

That is a sweet looking ride. I had to look it up to find out a bit about it. V4 100hp and a 28L tank? Dang, you could go for DAYS without re-fueling! The best I could do was about 130 miles plus or minus, before I had to switch to reserve. :( Of course after about 2 hrs of buzzy riding, I had to get off to wake my bottom up!

And I'm jealous of that fairing. Leaning into a 70mph gale takes it out of you.

Keep the shiny side up

Phillip, I would have to really look hard to find some photos of my '79 Honda 750 but like you I rode it the from Ontario to Colorado without a fairing or windshield. I remember it being 108 degrees F. while crossing South Dakota on Interstate 80!

Oh Dave,

When I did my transcon run in 82, from Cape Cod to San Diego it was mostly a lovely ride, I visited friends across the country and loved being on the open road on my bike. The last day I stayed overnight in Needles CA and when I rode out at 6:00 AM the time/temperature showed 96 degrees F, (That's 35C) and by the time I got to San Bernardino it was 116 and I thought I was gonna DIE cuz traffic stopped and that cylinder head was FRYING my thighs.
By the time I reached La Jolla (Where UCSD is) it had dropped to 75 and life was gooooooood!

Keep the shiny side up

Phillip

In the shed I have a Moto Guzzi 650TT (mid eighties; TT = Tutti Terrano yes it is a big trailie) and a late 70's Moto Guzzi 850T3. The T3 is in pieces and I have a set of 1000cc barrels and pistons to go in it. I can't quite make up my mind to LeMansify it or fit fairing, footboards and panniers to it.

If I go down the former route I have rearsets, clip ons, upswept stainless pipes, and a Bol D'Or fairing (with twin Cibies ) to go on it. If I fit the fairing I shall probably modify it to be a half-fairing; it is surely a sin to hide that round-barrel engine, isn't it?

Now on to pastures newer I had a Ducati 900SS ('91 model) and I presently have in my dining room (ahem) a '97 Ducati 916.

cheers
