Probably seems like a stupid question but, what fuel should I use in my '85 635CSi? If I read the owners manual correctly, I should use premium minus the ethanol. In the tech-article forum, there is some talk about installing a Dinan chip and then having to run premium. So if you don't have a chip, what fuel should I run. My 850 gets indignant if you even think about anything other than the best gas on the planet. I just hope it's cousin (e24) doesn't share the same thought.
Thanks to any and all,
Mike

I run regular on US model cars and midgrade on the euro high comp motor. Seems to work well without any signs of preignition.
Good luck keeping alcohol out!!

Ralph, thanks for the help.
There is a Sinclair station here in town that advertises his premium does not have ethanol. I know for sure the regular does, not sure about the mid-grade.
What is the best secret sauce to add to fuel to mitigate the "Ethanol Effect"? All the propaganda about Sta-Bil and that ilk, just wondering what the guys who have way more experience with e24's and BMW's in general think.
Thanks again,
Mike

PhoenixOp,
The 76 station on State St. down town Boise has all 3 grades non ethanol. The 66 stations, one on Overland Rd. by the Edwards Cinema, and one on Fairview in Meridian have only non ethanol, but only regular.

After replacing two small engine carburetors last year, I started seeking out ethanol free gas. It's all I use in the E28 and E24 now. Gas mileage seemed to bump up a bit.
This web site is useful for finding the ethanol free gas stations:

In Long Beach, I run Arco Premium, which is suppose to be 91 octane, so the pump says? In both cars.
Lately, it's been costco premium because of the price.
Still 91 octane I believe.
Every now & then I use STP Fuel Inj. Cleaner.
It seems to work.
