Refilled the liftgate pump on the 530. Easy and CHEAP!

Post by Da_Hose »

Hey, everyone. I wanted to share a story of my triumph over the weekend.

In a nutshell, our 530xi was not opening the liftgate all the way. The pump was low on oil and most stories of refilling make it seem like a real pain in the ass job. I was able to get it taken care of without unbolting anything. I figured out I could just pop off the oil reservoir, flush the system and refill. Took more time to figure out my process than to actually do any work. Net result is a working liftgate that would have cost $500 - $1000 to have the shop take care of it. Woohoo!!! \:D/

Well; you know what I picture when you say 'liftgate'! But, I just don't wanna believe my mental picture.
So, I ask, what the hell is a liftgate?? :-? From my small shade tree.

It's the tailgate door on a station wagon ("Touring")

Sorry for the confusion, Greg. The Sportwagen has a lot of parts listed in European versions of words.

What Ken said. I mean the rear tailgate of a station wagon in U.S. speak. The pump is known to leak and a dealership repair would be about $800 for the pump and a couple hours of labor, so it could easily run over $1000.
