That's absolutely insane, and I doubt that wasn't a "sale" between dealers to run the price up for other sales. I've seen far nicer M6's for 1/3 that price recently.

I've come to the conclusion that the M6 model ,due to the fact that there is a finite number and that they are already out of reach of many potential owners ,is seen as the new E9 in the eyes of the traders of the world.
If they all apply the logic of exponential greed , sorry growth , each time one falls into their grasp then they will elevate the car into super car cult status .
Once in that arena a healthy profit can be generated upon each sale to a buying elite to whom the model is currently below their radar.......

Divad,
Thank you.
What about the "87 M6? Mecum website says it also sold.

I notice that the '88 M6 has a plastic dash, is that standard?

Yes, they got smart after seeing what happened to the leather dashes in the '87 cars.

Well, my '87 leather dash is impeccable, and plastic dashes are not immune to cracking :)

I'd say, that makes a nice '87 more desirable :P

Lucky for you. With proper care the leather should last, but you don't see intact dashes in these cars, leather or plastic, very often.

What percentage of original units are still out on the road or in storage ? Of those how many are being considered for sale after seeing the market increase? How many can the market accept without demand saturation and in what time limit?
This car looks to be an excellent M6 and established a high water mark for the '88 model. The Euro version M635s seem to be a different market niche and harder to find low mileage units but has there been a set price mark? :-k

Agreed, Gene. The number of transactions on pristine M6 is pretty low. Given the pricing on E28 M5 we have seen in past years, it only makes sense for E24 M6 to appreciate. That said, I was a bit surprised at the magnitude of the increase over the past couple years. Let's see if that pricing level sustains itself.

Neighbors, btw?

Lack i\of originality and "driver" condition will hurt the value of that car. And, BAT seems like a much more legitimate marketplace than the big auctions, which often see "sales" between dealers.

Maybe it's just supply and demand. 350M +/- people in the US. The 1% crowd is about 3.5M people. Roughly 3000 M635s/M6's ever produced. Lets be generous and say 1000 are still really nice cars. Thats 1 car for every 3500 in the 1% crowd. Add to that what has happened to the price of 911's in the last 3 years. People are looking for alternatives and see the M6 as a really nice one. That said, I have a pretty nice M635. If offered 60K, I'd probably take it. Love the car, but at 60K, I can find others I can love almost as much.

Interesting, this same car was listed for sale in CA in Nov 2001 with 23,000 miles. Asking price then was $45,000.
