Found 4 x M90 Motors Today

Post by Ozibimmer »

Hi Guys
I was going through my e24 stock today my BMW Wrecking yard and found 4 of the 9 e24s I had in stock have M90 motors in them. So I am planning a massive engine pull next week.
So happy I am going to do two of them up as complete rebuilds and sell them off the third one I will do for myself and the 4th I will sell as is. I know all the cars were running as they came in.
Took this nice carby model M30 B28 out of a e3 I was wrecking, love the gearbox.
I love the M30 and M90 motors especially the early motors

Long term project, but I do eventually want to build a 3.6L M90 to replace the aging M30B32 in the green beast [-o<

Dang man! Nice find. I'm with GrnShrk, would be awesome to have one. Pretty cool that you're gonna fix em up and give em new homes.

So, I will try to learn more about these M90's. As some of you know, I am perpetually behind the learning curve on 6's. I spotted this ad which someone also posted in the For sale section here.

I wish I had the time and rust repair skills, I like the blue one. Wish he had not buggered the transmission up. But the M90 seems to be in the really rusty grey/silver car. Man that car was top of the line, wish it could be saved.

Anyway, what's the big deal with M90?

So -
The M90 engine is a lower performance SOHC engine that was based on the M88/1. It utilizes the same block from the M88 and maintains the same bore and stroke, but borrows its head from the BMW M30 engine family. Different years of M90 engines used both Bosch Motronic and Bosch L-Jetronic engine management systems.[3] Typically identified by a white L painted on the block behind the oil filter housing..

Showed 215hp, 225 fpt. While this motor is obviously higher hp and all, it would have to be an easy drop in for most of us "average" skilled guys. That must be the case.

Wish I could justify that guy's $2000 price for the car. It everything I want in an earlier car and would go well with a later car.
