76 630cs Euro - Would you buy it?

Post by brickwhite »

I'm in the Midwest US and came across a Green 76 Euro seller wants 5-6k for it. it's in OK shape.

- had some rust repair in the rear fenders
- Been sitting for 2-3 years started once in a while
- 4 speed manual
- Carbed version
-167k miles?

I would think it's more in the $3-4k range but....

I could see either price... just depends what you are comfortable with.

It's a unique color and looks pretty nice. It is a rare euro car but there isn't a lot of demand for that engine.

I am not looking for one like that so I'd only pay $3k and expect to change the engine or do something else similar...

I would go with less than their asking price also, if they would take it. With it being a '76 euro I would imagine you'll put a little more $$ into it keeping it up than a newer series. Nevertheless, it's a unique car and would be a great piece of history to own.

That would be a fun car for $3500. But too easy to find a lots better (in a practical sense) car for the sellers asking price. Love the color...

There is no set market but at large prices are getting a bit steeper... It's all in the eye of the beholder. In my opinion, makes no sense buying such a unique car to then go change engines, etc. If you don't like that engine, buy a car with the engine you like. As such, the car is history and has some value as a result. Mod'd it's nothing but a toy...

I would say go for it (at a mutually agreeable price) assuming all is solid and you can like the carbs. There may not be a collector demand yet, but I think few of these early Karmann cars survive. And a carbed one has got to be even more out of ordinary. I suspect if you do engine swap you would mute future collector interest. Just my 2¢
