another new guy

Post by beaner »

I purchased a '85 635CSi on Ebay. it was located less than two miles from my shop. I checked it out and bought it. it is a presentable driver. everything works as it should, but it needs some love. before completing the purchase, I called my local independent BMW mechanic to see if he knew of the car. He didn't. i mentioned to him that i was really looking for an E24 M6. he pointed me to a stalled restoration of a '88 M6. i bought it too. its restoration is once again underway.
pics will be posted as soon as I find an alternative to Photobucket!

this site is a wealth of information. thanks to all who contribute.

Holy cow, welcome Greg

Some may say that you're a glutton for punishment ](*,)

Our site does permit you to post photos 4 at a time, but there is a size limit to the file, don't recall but I usually reduce the file size :-k

Wanted to mention this so that we don't have to wait for that elusive Photobucket alternative [-X

Once again, welcome to the madness, you're in the right place \:D/

Dean: thanks. the car is a 20 footer, but will serve me well until the M6 is completed. it may then get a S62 transplant and be resto-modded. I know the purists will not agree, but I find the power lacking. my DD is a 2012 Alpina B7, so the power of the M30 is underwhelming. I am in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I found both cars in Pompano Beach, less than 1/2 mile from each other.

A V8 in an E24 would be interesting, but a lot more work than I'm planning. I'm hoping for an S54, as it's almost a drop-in and I'd be doing it myself.

i will let an expert handle the engine swap. i know that is has been done before. i want all features (cruise control, ABS, A/C, etc) to run as intended. i would like to use this car as my DD once the extended warranty on my Alpina B7 is expired. B7 will then be relegated to weekend use. S54 is a good option though. they can make nice power.

btw: i have seen you on Bimmerforums as well and have previously looked up your location. I've been lurking since i bought the cars.

Greg,
Great bunch of purchases! I will be spending a whole lot more time in the Boynton area this winter and can provide some hands on assistance.

Sancouci: It look forward to meeting you this winter. I have a nice toy shop with a lift. I won't be doing much of the restoration on the M6. it was owned by a body shop owner who will be completing the body work.

I may have to come by for a visit, too. Ken, let me know when you're in-state, since our plans earlier this year didn't work out.

I'm pretty sure that would be a major job Dean. S38 would be far easier swap.

Yep I've seen that. The S38 however is pretty much a straight drop in compared to the S54.
