Why did the Forum change!?!?!

Post by bcadmin »

All,

It was reported recently that the Forum is running a version that is vulnerable to hackers. I had to update to the latest version in order to secure it. Unfortunately I have lost all the customizations I have made over the years. One thing I can see is that the font appears too small. Forgive me as it will take me a while to address all the little issue. Please do offer your insight as to what you want to see changed. I doubt I can get it back to how it looked as of yesterday but I can work on improving the look with feedback.

Hey Brian,

I kicked down some funds to help pay for anything you might need to change over. Hopefully others see this thread and pitch in. Let me know if I can help. I'm an IT, web, ERP guy.

Noticed that the icons for edit, delete, etc. that normally appear on the upper right the post; have all become blank squares for me. I can hover over them and see what they do if I look in the status in the lower left. But it's definitely missing the icons.

Also, the nice BigCoupe banner art at the top left is now replaced by phpBB.
I liked the previous banner art better.

As for the size, I just zoom in a bit on my browser and all is well.

Hi Brian,

It was a little disorientating when I logged on, but I prefer the typeface. I've sent you some $$$$s to help towards the cost of the changeover.

Paul.

Well it looks asolutely bizarre on my laptop with menus popping up randomly all over the place and a messed up screen. If I click to close one menu then another one pops up and if I close a menu with a click it pops back up again when I click to start typing so my text is hidden behind it. Most odd.

I see something similar on my Surface Pro, but not on my Server 2016 workstation, which makes it look like a local issue. Try using a different browser.

Saw that screen too! Clear cache, close browser and start again. It cleared it up for me.
Still missing the icons in the upper right though...

I don't know what operating system you are using. If you type into Google 'how to clear cache on (enter your OS)" then the answer should come up straight away. It's a very simple procedure in that you click on whatever button you are told to, close and come back to or refresh the site and it should have cleared up.

The cache stores basic forum stuff such as layout so it doesn't have to load every single time. Problems arise when the forum software has been changed but the cache is still loading the old stuff underneath the new stuff.

Hi Paul,

Thanks for the explanation. On Microsoft and Google here in the USA, it is called delete browsing history and cookies or temporary files.
I tried it and no change, BC is still fucked up.

Try "ctrl" "F5"
For the Mac users out there, Press the "Cmd" key and then click the reload page icon in Safari. That'll do it as well.
Also, I noticed that the icons in the upper right have returned! Yay! We are almost back to normal...
