Would you trade your 635CSI for a Z3 M roadster

Post by pgh880 »

Hi guys ,

I have an 84 635CSI w/c I’ve owned for more than 10 years . Somebody is interested in trading a Z3M roadster . Will you do it if your given the same opportunity. My car is rare here in the Philippines, that’s why one part of me wants to trade it , but I’m having second thoughts. It would be very hard to get an E24 here in our country if I decide to let go.

thanks in advance guys for your opinions , replies

The S52 Z3M is quite a nice car and is going to be reliable and fun, but not practical for a road trip or passengers due to the limited storage space.

Here the E24 is more commonly found, so it is a much different comparison. I could more easily get a replacement than you. I would certainly consider the trade, but my 635 is a euro model and I really like it a lot. The dogleg and euro parts make it difficult for me to replace, and rust is a big issue.

E24 values are going up slowly. E36/7 values are at the lowest they will probably ever be and I think will start trending up very soon. Condition is a big factor-- if your E24 is rust free and in good shape, it will certainly cost more down the road o replace it!

It all comes down to what you want in a car and if you are ready for a change or not. All out performance is not the point of my 635 and I don't really need a convertible.

Hi ,

Thanks for the reply , my E24 is a Euro as well but it has a slush box ( zf4hp22eh) . It’s has some rust but it’s been repaired in the past and w/ an excellent quality respray done in 2006 . It’s not a daily driver . Your right the 635 is a practical car and prices are starting to go up . The only thing that’s making me think of selling or trading it is because it’s not a sports car .

Tough question. I like the M roadster, and long term I think they will be collectable. In terms of value they are probably pretty close. It would be tough to give up my e24 euro with a dogleg for it, but if I had one with a slush box I'd be more apt to trade. Let us know what you end up doing. It's a choice between 2 great cars.

I had a Z3M Roadster for a while until recently, as well as an E24. To those that haven't driven one, I could describe it as being much like a Mk1 or Mk2 Mazda MX5/Miata, with lots of grunt and a lively rear end (without DSC in S50 equipped examples - the vast majority). The benefits of a enjoyable, zippy engine help offset the pitfalls of the flexible body. Overall it was quite fun, and I agree will become collectable in the future.

But I note you already have a powerful manual transmission sports car with a lively rear end (911T) AND a sporty cabriolet (Mondial), so I wonder what the Z3M would offer you that you don't have already. Your elegant, practical, rare, comfortable automatic Euro E24 strikes me as an interesting and contrasting alternative to the other two cars in your garage

Trade one of my E24s for a Z3M roadster? Nope, but I'd trade for a Z3M coupe in a heartbeat. Always wanted a clown shoe.

Hi guys ,

Thank you very much for your replies and opinion. If I could only get to have both the E24 and Z3M it would be the best scenario. But w/ kids in college , I can’t afford it . Soperman you have a point there . Dmac even if my euro 635CSI has a slush box it’s very hard to part w/ it because in our country there’s only a few 635CSI in fact in my province it’s the only one . The Z3M Coupe is nice / unique car (MGB GT) as well but it’s not my type .
Z3M roadster reminds me of an AC Cobra .
But we can all agree that our E24 is more handsome and elegant than the Z3M .

Nope, but what would bring a smile to your face? I think you know the answer to that already.

Nah. Would trade for a Z4 with the little 4 banger turbo and six speed. Just wait a few years and hold out for that trade!

Hi guys sorry for the very late reply . I decided for the mean time to keep my E24 Euro . Every time I look at it in the garage it makes me smile . I’m sure the Z3 M wont give me the same satisfaction .

OMG! I have never heard the Z's referred to as that that's hilarious man! I never really liked the looks of the "clown shoe" It doesn't smack of BMW just my personal opinion. Instead it reeks of Mazda miata  But to each their own. :-& The only Bimmer I would consider trading or buying at this point would be the i8...or the classic M1 But who has the do rai me for that option? Not me not yet. Plus not mention the ease inside our sharks engine bays.

I’d seriously think about it if it’s the ITB version for the m roadster.
