Re: Gonna be gone for a while

Post by hornhospital »

I am getting much better. Got my appetite back after losing 88 pounds. Started doing some small jobs around here, like plumbing repairs (which I absolutely loathe, but it was a 'have to' situation), and changed the water pump on my daughter's Pontiac.
That's the good news....the sad new is my younger brother lost his 12 year battle with cancer. His funeral is tomorrow. He had the same surgery I had, but a year earlier. His cancer was too advanced, and had gone into one kidney. He was too weak to survive the removal of the kidney, so they left it. The cancer won.

The roller-coaster ride continues:
I was rebounding, getting an appetite, getting some strength back, when I started having chills and fever again. When I got delerious Saturday night my wife called the ambulance. Good thing she did. My blood sugar and blood pressure had crashed and I had a temp of 102.4. Waiting until morning I'd have probably died. So now I update from the ICU, as they try to get me stable again. SICK OF BEING SICK!

You've had some setbacks and sorrows along the way Ken but I wish and hope that they are behind now and that you start to see steady progress back to a healthy state again.
Good luck Sir .

All best wishes to you Ken, so glad you and your wife acted quickly and got into the ITU - the very
best place to get you stabilized again so that you can continue your recovery at home.
It does seem to be the way with cancer treatments that the 'status quo' can change very quickly,
I went in for my routine immunotherapy treatment at the Royal Marsden just before Christmas
- feeling a bit unwell for the previous two days, only to find that all my blood counts were on
the floor and my temp.soared to 103F whilst I was there! I was told that I would have stay there
until I was stabilized.- Talk about being in the right place at the right time!
The' not so fun' bit was that I had to be a 'private patient' so it was 5 days @ £1200 a day - ouch!
don't do the maths !! Get well soon my friend - we have 635's to look after! Nigel.

I had a C.T. scan Monday, and a follow-up with the doctor yesterday. I got about as wonderful a report as I could hope for: no sign of cancer, come back in 6 months. After three years of scans and no reoccurrence they'll consider me cancer free. \:D/

Update 8/30/2019

Post by hornhospital »

They did the six-month CT scan and blood tests a little early. Clean bill of health, praise God! Doctor said "see you in six months!"

And my wife is making good progress with her rehab from knee replacement surgery and recovery from those pesky blood clots. Things are good.
