New member - Norwegian with 1988 m635CSI Shadowline

Post by olechrd »

Last night I collected my new car - 1988 m635CSI - on a trailer. Took it from Sweden to Norway.

It is a very nice car, with virtually no rust and it looks good. Due to the winter conditions in Norway, I have not even driven it yet, so it will be exciting to see how it handles.

Here is a dim picture, taken past midnight, right after unloading it from the trailer:

Looks like full shadowline trim, including the bumpers, even original TRX wheels :-k

Please forward better photos when you get a chance, and more of the history and details [-o<

Olechrd,

Wow, what an awesome M635
Black, Shadow Line, correct wheels, and a '88 to boot.
This has to be very RARE.

Thanks a lot for your feedback :-)

Yeah, it is rare. One of 117 ever produced. And even rarer with shadowline.

The car was owned by BMW for the first years. In 2003 it was owned by a guy who took it to BMW in Denmark to restore it to “new” condition. The bill was approx 40.000 USD at the time. Since then it has been owned by a couple of enthusiasts in Sweden until I took it to Norway two days ago.
There are a couple of paint chips and two tiny spots of rust that I will take care of immediately. Other than that, the body and paint is 100% perfect. It has been repainted, by BMW in 2003, and the result is just perfect. I cannot see that it has been repainted. Color is Diamantshwartz, which is nice, but a pitty that the original delphingrau is gone.

Original hifi professional is in good working order, steering wheel has been changed from airbag type to M-sport. I have the original steering wheel.
Here is a couple of other pictures, unfortunately the picture quality is poor due to the poor lighting in the garage.

Anyone who knows why the picture of the car wants to appear upside down after uploading to the forum? It appears upside down on my PC, but not om my mobile when viewing this post.

Olechrd,

Are you sure that this is an '88 car.
I see many things that point to a much earlier car.
The piping on the leather seats is not the French (saddle stitch) seam.
Mechanical seats, not electric.
Does it have World bumpers?
What about the newer fog lamps?
? why did the factory respray change colors, did they repaint the engine bay and trunk (boot)?

Best,
Jay

Hi!

Interesting, the VIN indicates an 1988 car, and it has the S38 engine. Also the color of the car interior matches the VIN. I am new to this game, so I cannot tell the difference on the trim details. I can post more pictures later when I can get it outside.

The respray is as I mentioned excellent. Even the plate with color code is changed. I have inspected the car inside out, and have not seen a spot of the original color.

Congrats on having your dream car! It looks great. Regarding the seats questioned, I have identical seats in black, also non-electric, and mine is 88 European market car too. It appears correct to me.

Took some more pictures today, added them to the gallery as well. Had the car out for a start-up, it started right away with no smoke, just vapor. Good sign!

Hi and thanks for that!

To my knowledge, the wheel arch covers are original, it was how the 1988 M635 looked.

Always loved the correct shadow line .
Noticed on your world bumpers you do not have the side marker lights like US. Never noticed that before . Do they have cutout for them ?
Redid my US 88 Schwartz, now long gone with mostly OE shadowline parts ,when BMW would bring them in from across the pond. Should be pic in my album here.
Cost me a fortune. But I just loved the look.

Am now doing redoing another M6,zinno, and will do the same shadowline. Unfortunatly BMW will no longer bring the parts in and not all are available anymore. Piece here, piece there. So just going to get handles from W.N. & powder coat what I can n paint rest like grill alum. trim after disassembled .
Already did side window trim, inside n out n came out great and a LOT less $$
Will do tailights next, then when I have it painted this winter n have bumpers off I will powdercoat or paint them.

Yes, plenty of salt on the roads. It is nogo for an e24 to drive on the roads from November until late April.

No cutout as far as I can see.
