Gimmick? Or worth while...

Post by GRNSHRK »

Came across this "device", not sure if this is just a gimmick or might actually work :-k

https://www.chemicalguys.com/searchresu ... ap&Submit=

My DD truck can sure muck up the wash water, but the BMW's usually don't get very dirty to begin with [-X

Well, maybe the wife's 5er gets pretty dirty as well, since it is her DD :-({|=

$10 plus shipping charges, what do you guys think :-?

One of the detailing videos I watched on YouTube had one in use. The detailer seemed to like it. Anything to get the dirt off the cleaning sponge/mop and have the residue drop to the bottom of the bucket.

This is what I use
And yes, when you use the two bucket method: clean/sudsy and dirty, you get a lot of dirt below the screen

Wow, embarrassing, I've been washing cars for some 45 years or so and have never used the dual bucket method

Hard to believe, since I have such clean cars #-o

Well then fellas, I see 2 new things happening in the world of Mr. GRNSHRK, 2 buckets and a dirt trap in one of them =D>

Thanks gents, feel like an idiot :-({|=

Don't feel like that. I've been washing my cars for 50+ years and never even heard of the two-bucket method until recently. Considering I plan on having at least two of the BMWs painted next year, that process will change. Professional paint is too expensive to ruin with sloppy washing practices.

Me too! Only been driving 43 years though - so I guess I must be the youngest! Nice to be able to say that at my advanced age.......😉

I found that the Lowe's blue bucket is slightly smaller than the HD orange bucket so that they nest nicely for storage and don't get jammed together. Consider it "color coding."

Washed the missus' 5er yesterday morning and did use the dual bucket method, albeit without the dirt trap, but wow, surprised how much cleaner the soap bucket stayed

Gonna buy one of these traps, but most of my buckets won't fit the trap from Chemical Guys :-k

Guess it's off to Lowe's, what a shame #-o

Looks like this one should fit the HD buckets.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051PKG2G/re ... merReviews

Someone made a good point in the reviews. If it sticks half to 3/4 way down, it means more space between dunked washcloth and dirt at bottom of the bucket.

Shit, that would be a LOT of dirt to need that much room #-o

But I bought the Chemical Guys version, works as advertised and does fit one of my buckets all the way to the bottom =D>

I won't be washing a vehicle any other way from now on

I've owned my 6 going on 31 years. Full disclose I owned a car wash.
In all that time and continuing now, I never washed by hand.
There's no way you can get the volume of water to remove the silt,
even if you used 4 hoses at once.

Same thing with my DD, 2011 MB always car-washed.

Now you may want to do it for the love, the connection, the bonding.
I understand that. After the wash I then detail with the wax and polish
inside-outside, engine compartment etc.

All I'm saying that you do less harm to the finish with a reputable
establishment than washing by hand. I know that it won't get every nook
and cranny but overall it's still better.
