Get Well Soon, Ron
I just had a call from Cassie, Ron's partner, who wanted us to know that Ron has suffered an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). He is in intensive care having undergone emergency surgery.
I will post any updates on here; I know you kind people will be wishing him a swift and complete recovery,
Rob

That he's still alive is a miracle. Those are fatal most of the time. Prayers his way.

Just got home to read this Rob; tough news to hear. I won't call Cass so as not to trouble her but when you next speak to her let her know she and Ron are in my thoughts and prayers and I can be available to help out in any way.
Get well soon Ron.

Re: Get Well Soon, Ron
Hope Ron is a candidate for Aorta stents and not full open surgery.
I lucked out in 2009 and was able to have the triple A. Second para.
Good luck Ron, hope all goes well for a comfortable recovery.
Bob V
For patients requiring open surgical repair of their aorta, a large incision is made in the abdomen to expose the aorta. Once the abdomen is opened, the aneurysm is repaired with a graft. Open repair remains the standard procedure for an abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.
Some patients are candidates for minimally invasive repair, called endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), a procedure that requires a small incision in the groin (to insert a catheter), followed by the placement of a stent graft inside the aneurysm to reinforce weak spots in the artery. For those who don’t qualify for EVAR, the fenestrated endograft is a minimally invasive option for people with abdominal aortic aneurysms. The fenestrated endograft is inserted into the femoral artery through a groin incision, then guided through the blood vessel to the aneurysm.

Re: Get Well Soon, Ron
It is no small relief to hear some positive news.
I suppose if anybody is game for a major mechanical overhaul, it's gonna be Ron. Fingers crossed he's soon back on the road, clocking up many, many more miles.

Re: Get Well Soon, Ron
Managed to speak to the big man himself yesterday: he sounded tired but enormously relieved to be with us after dash up the M4 in the ambulance and emergency surgery. He mentioned all the support on the site and was grateful for the info on those who've had experience of the same sort of procedure. Thank God for the NHS.
I didn't think to make a Munich Legends restoration quip!
Keep up the recovery, Ron: those BMWs need you!

Re: Get Well Soon, Ron
I spoke to Cass tonight and she was telling me the full story . Poor man has had a dreadful time .
Ron is up on his feet ,albeit with a walking aid ,and off oxygen etc. but exhausted.
She hopes that he may be allowed home sometime next week, all going well.
She'll let us know how things progress.
