E24 Repair manual CD v Windows XP
Hi Guys,
Can anyone help me to run the BMW CD-ROM Repair Manual on Windows XP Home Edition. I've recently updated my home PC and while the repair manual ran perfectly well on a 166MMX with Windows 98 it keeps coming up with a,
Run-time error '2004':
Out of memory
error message any time I try and run it on my new 2.8 GHz, 1Gb memory Windows XP thing. I've tried uninstall, re-install, I've tried using the Windows XP Compatibility thing, all to no avail. Are there any IT boffins out there who've solved this? Please help.
Many TIA,
Sharkfan.

try this.....
ONE. instal the software.
TWO. once installed right click on icon and go to "properties".
-then click on the "compatability" tab.
-then on the "conpatability mode" check the box and select which ever system you wish.
THREE. run the program.

Run time error '2004'
Hi guys,
After a little investigation I've answered my own problem;
Run time error '2004' is a Windows XP way of saying you have too much memory for older programs. The short dumbed-down explaination is that there is a Windows sub-set program which manages memory that was never envisaged to have to manage more than 512Mb RAM - so when you have more than 512Mb RAM it throws a double seven, toys out of the pram, and won't run 'older' programs.
I haven't included the hyper-links here, but so far the only solution is to disable any memory above 512Mb through either software management (the system.ini file), or physically taking the memory out.
The E24 parts disk works fine, and the software disabling method appears to work fine, although it requires a system boot to fix, and then unfix, the situation.
I guess we shouldn't be greedy and buy more than 512Mb RAM, eh?

Re: cd rom
Mine works ok thankfully, also on XP (Home edition).ron wrote:How old is your CD rom.Mine runs O.K.on windows XP.Put it in and it auto loads without any problem.Do you want a copy of my disc to try?PM me.
Too much memory...............
Hi, I think mine is a 2001 edition, and I don't think that my having XP is the problem - just the amount of memory. Anything over 512Mb sends a double seven - if anyone has over 512MB of memory and can run the repair manual CD - I'd try a copy of that.
