looks very nice from this distance...
Pardon my ignorance Garry but how do you know it's number 288 just by reading the ad? Have you memorised all of them since birth and recognise each one as it pops up? You should be on the stage. =D>
Ron and I are working together to collate a database of all the RHD M635's, and how they left the factory. This includes (in most cases) the original UK rego of the car. So in cases like this one where the car still has it's original number I can trace it easily...

Not sure I belong on stage, although some have suggested I'd make a great side show act... Maybe Mr E and I as the long and short of it
Re: original registration numbers, I discovered today when I dropped off my car at Stratstone that the original registration was RER 111.

Needs a bit of TLC.

Ron's data sheet says it was a demo car.

Could turn out to be an understatement. Getting rid of the alarm and its wiring spaghetti would be a first task.

The photos appear to suggest that either the wheels or discs look very very corroded.

Yes, I reckon it's not turned a wheel for some time.
Can't imagine many people taking on such a project to be honest. It wouldn't surprise me if it ends up in pieces on Ebay. :(

An early one... #57 is up for auction 22 Oct.

But off the road since late 90's, speedo not working since mid 90's and no reserve, could be a bargin/money pit for someone.

A bit of a project this one:

CLICKY

Anyone know the VIN?

I met up with the owner of an early car in Lachs Silver with Pacific leather at the weekend.
He's owned the car for over 20 years and it sounds like a nice one. I will be meeting up with him soon to see the car and take some pics.

Do you want to guess what VIN mine is? I realise that I joined this site 2.5 years ago when I got my M, promised I'd give you the number, and then, well, it broke and only now do I have the money to even consider getting it a bit mended...

Reg is NOT original... but here's a pic.. I'll have to go and get the logbook from my filing cabinet upstairs before I can confirm the chassis number to you for the register!

Need to make MUCH more effort to use this site!

Well guessed. Dug the v5 out last night and it is #418

Currently awaiting a new engine before it goes back on the road!

General condition is 'good though some rust has set in on the bumpers and under the sills, though it should still past MoT

Mileage is about 115,500. I bought it in ireland 2.5 years ago from a man who was emigrating to Australia and not taking it with him! Previously owned by a man just down the road from me in Hove

As you can see, it's got the 17" Alpina wheels, I've also got a set of the 840Ci Brembo brakes to fit

Having a lot of work done by Mark at MJF Engineering just up the road from me, which is nice

Guessing mine is a "late" Shadowline being #418

The engine... well.. someone has run it lean. Really lean. There's a hole in No. 4 piston meaning there's no compression on no. 4 cylinder. A couple of the other cylinders are also showing signs of damage as well. Not good, and a replacement engine is going to be cheaper than refurbishment. Though at the moment, not having much luck finding an engine!

No yours is an "early" Shadowline. It's a pre-Highline car, just, as 1st.

Highline is # 423. Your car was a BMW promotion vehicle.

Aah, so are all the pre-423 cars "early" and all the post-423 "late"?

I had heard something from the guy I bought it from about it being a BMW Promotion car but never really paid much attention... what can you tell me about it?

Shakermaker.....If you can afford it, it would be better to repair the original engine and therby the original engine number will remain with the car. A different engine in the car will devalue it in the long run.

Also with a rebuilt engine you know that you will have a top notch engine, buying a second hand one is pot luck.

Just my 2 cents.

Mine was running lean when I bought it as the bellows had split between the AFM and the airbox. Luckily it was spotted and fixed ? for ?40! I would rebuild the original engine if it's cost-effective and you intend to keep the car.

Unfortunately its not that cost effective to fix the engine. It is salvageable, but not with the funds I have available

the 3.8 engine pointed in my direction is under offer... which is nice!

# 011

Post by Motorhead »

I was visiting someone this morning and they have an early M635CSi VIN 0760011: number 11. Its in bits awaiting restoration, although body looked sound. Location is Slough, UK.

Build date is Feb '85.

Are any earlier ones known?

0760003 is still in existance, supposed to be under going a restoration. Silver with black leather. It would be great to see it back on the road.

0760002 and 0760001, not much is known about them. I think they were the RHD pre production cars but I am not 100% sure. No one knows where they ended up. I checked with my BMW dealer and build sheet data is available for them, so they were built.

For those interested...011 recently sold and is being exported to Cyprus.

The buyer of 011 also has an H registration M635 Highline in black here in UK, although I've not seen it nor know its VIN (yet).
