Car meets....any photos?
This thread is for random car meets, and may give people from other regions/countries an idea of how things are in UK car clubs.
So for starters, near me once a month in the summertime there is a pub meet for local BMWCC members.
The usual venue is 'The Royal Oak' pub in Barrington.
They do good food and a decent pint.
The pub itself is housed in a building that dates from the 13th century, and is now the only pub in the village; at one time there were as many as seven.
Barrington also has an enormous village green, over half a mile long, and many other buildings as old as the pub, half-timbered and thatched. Quite a little chocolate-box village really, especially when the local cricket team turns out.
People come from all over the region just to talk cars (and anything else they fancy), and watch the sun set etc in convivial surroundings. The drive there and back is OK from a few different directions too; there are a lot worse ways of spending a summer's evening...
So how are things where you are?
cheers

I've come to suspect I'm a miserable sod deep down! There's a BMW car club meet just up the road once a month, but I'm yet to actually attend.
Nice place by the looks of it: The Swan at Coombe Hill, just next to a nature reserve with bird hides and everything!
I should get along, I know.

Ace Café BMW day on 9th May.
Another excellent meeting at Ace Café BMW day on 9th May. I was very pleased indeed to be joined by Bob Gray and Ted Robinson. Bob continues to refine the appearance of his car and it looks increasingly sophisticated. However no doubt Bob will be travelling to the Mediterranean in it for yet another of his long distance vacation trips.

What better reason then to get together, talk about your rides and drink (a bit)?

recently one of our members bought his DIY-built car along.
The wings (fenders), radiator cowl, scuttle, and a (frankly amazing) boat tail are all welded in aluminium and have been wheeled into shape. Our man not only built the car but also, actually built his own wheeling machine to do it with!
nice touches include leather straps for the bonnet, spoked wheels in the larger size used in the 1930's and older style instruments.
Underneath it is an E30 325i from about 1990. The original subframes were retained, along with the engine, transmission etc so it kept its original reg, rather than getting a Q plate. That reg was then swapped for an older one.
One of the few mechanical changes is a 4.1 diff, so that the gearing isn't absurdly high with the big wheels fitted. Open the bonnet up and there is an M20 in there, motronic and all!
Our man finished the car a few years ago now and has done about 20000 miles in it, including trips overseas, most recently a jaunt to Italy and back, taking in a few alpine passes en route!
cheers
