Duxford Spring Car Show - 30th April 2017
Never been but apparently a large BMW Car Club turnout in recent years.

Re: Duxford Spring Car Show - 30th April 2017
There are about 300 spaces allocated this year for the BMWCC alone. It's being organised by the East Anglia regional chair, who has invited members to put their names forward as prospective attendees.
I'd guess there were about 4 or 5 E24s there in 2014, about a dozen in 2015 and half that last year.
I relish any opportunity to go to Duxford, so that I might gaze in awe and wonder at their Lockheed SR-71, quite simply the coolest example of transport design ever.

Would be up for going if a few others are, be good to say hello and put faces to names.
Car is all road worthy now so I'll check with lady regarding the day and if all good can stick name down.
IWM is a great day out, totally agree on the SR71 which if you are being naughty can be touched (they come and chastise you though if get caught) - feels warm and unnatural.. amazing machine.
I have flown in a couple of times in my 2 seat microlight plane, free entry and you get to park next to some interesting other aircraft. Last time parked next to a set of old warbirds, made for a proud photo :)

Duxford sounds like a great event. Wish I could attend one day.
If you fellows ever make it to the States, plan a trip to the Battleship Alabama Museum and park in Mobile, Alabama. They have an SR71 in their aviation collection under protection of a huge building. You can walk up and touch it all you want.

I've just found out about this and it is on the same day the annual Alpina National meet takes place at Sytner Nottingham.
2001 Alpina B10 V8 Touring (1 of 12 rhd)
1997 Alpina B12 5.7 L (1 of 2 rhd)
1995 Alpina B10 4.6 Touring (1 of 1 rhd)
1985 BMW M635CSi (1 of 524 rhd)
1982 BMW 635CSiA (1 of 100's left from the 1000's made and still valiantly fighting against a rusty grave)

Awesome, absolutely awesome plane...Soperman wrote: I relish any opportunity to go to Duxford, so that I might gaze in awe and wonder at their Lockheed SR-71, quite simply the coolest example of transport design ever.
I'm also hoping to make it, I've heard some good things about the event and it's a bonus being at Duxford, got the BMWCC flyer today. Hoping my 6er will be ready for the road then, otherwise will have to bring something else Bavarian, but not a Weißwurst.
Re: Duxford Spring Car Show - 30th April 2017
Daft, isn't it? I live not far away and I am (very) keen on planes, but I have never been to the Duxford BMW meet. Part of the trouble is that I'd happily spend all day wandering around looking at aircraft, or the cars, so would feel deeply conflicted!
FWIW there are so many fantastic planes to look at there, even a whole day isn't really enough to take it all in.
Amongst other oddities, they have a section of the 'Iraqi Supergun' on display....
Maybe this year I'll do the april meet.
cheers

I wish I could make it ,as it'll be ideal combination for a day long meet .
Living quite local to Duxford for nearly ten years I visited it on several occasions , always trying to choose an out of season wet Tuesday so's to minimise the number of other visitors there .
I always went alone and found the array of exhibits thoroughly boundless and incredibly interesting. Much better than the RAF Museum at Hendon ,London.
My last visit was some 12 years ago and I recall a long and enjoyable conversation with a couple of engineers who were restoring a Mitsubushi Zero from what could only be described as a carcass found on a Pacific island.
I sorely miss the heritage on display in UK as there is nothing similar here in Ireland .

Not to rain on this parade, but I have been to that museum in Alabama and have a few shots of the SR71
For your viewing pleasure, although we could not get close enough to touch this example

So to go we need to register for BMWCC for around £45, then entry to Duxford too? Wouldnt be a cheap day out but am tempted, the girlfriend didn't look too dismayed at the prospect either.
Photo of the SR71 that you can touch but then get told off for doing so:
And here we all are parked up on the visit:

Ben, I think the admission is included in the standard Duxford admission price, but I guess that will not include a car?
I've flown in a couple of times too, it's a real experience coming in to land when there's a show going on, surrounded by war birds and crowds of people.
Now booked and place confirmed.

Bobbo, that's the one in Huntsville, and like the one in Mobile, it turns out both of them are A-12s (SR71 predecessor), not SR71s Still very cool.GRNSHRK wrote:Not to rain on this parade, but I have been to that museum in Alabama and have a few shots of the SR71

Does the Duxford museum have a B-52 on display?
OK, I'll quit highjacking this thread....

Yes there's a B52, see full list of aircraft in link below.
There's also an air and sea section and land warfare section with tanks, heavy equipment, ap carriers etc etc

The SR71 at Duxford:

The Memphis Belle also forms part of their collection, not sure if the film was popular in the States?

Re: Duxford Spring Car Show - 30th April 2017
So a nice lady called Sam emailed back:
"We are hosting 2 shows this year;
• Duxford Spring Car Show – Sunday 30 April 2017
• Duxford MotorFest – Sunday 27 August 2017
If you are coming along with less than 10 vehicles, we have an Individual area and there is no need to book, just pay on the day.
Or if you contact the clubs online who are already attending they may have booked a club pitch and you could ask to join them.
The entry fee is a special reduction from our usual admission price of £18 for adults.
Adults, £12.60. Children £6.30."
So ill go along on the day (no way to pre-book) and cough up my £12.60x2 and park in the individual area. Alternative is to join the BMWCC for £45 and then guess could park up in their club pitch - however being Janaury and poor if i can avoid £45 extra pain then i will at moment... every little helps.

go
every time i go duxford i just stand there and stare at it, scares the shit out of me even though its not a strike/attack aircraft
Re: Duxford Spring Car Show - 30th April 2017
Well, I never actually made it 2017, but there should be nothing to stop me attending the 2018 Duxford show tomorrow.
I haven't really driven my 6er much during what has been a pretty miserable spring. But with glorious sunshine now predicted, the temptation to take it out for a blast and meet up with hundreds of other classic cars and planes is irresistible. I'll throw a bucket of water over the thing and charge up my camera.
Anyone else going?
