2005 Calender of events and meets

Post by sohlman »

Hi All,

I have now completed my proposed list of events for 2005 for the coupe section of the BMWCC. This little article has been sent off for publication into the club magasine.

In April last year I was asked by Howard Walker to look after the southern coupe meetings and keep the interest in coupes that had been developed from the fine work of Adrian Pratt my predecessor. After a slightly impromptu start I had what can only be described as a successful first year of coupe events with the climax of the Sharkfest and big coupe day at Brooklands. Now in the New Year it is time to put pen to paper or hand to keyboard so to speak and organise some more.

The dark, cold and rainy months will soon be leaving us and for many coupe owner means that they will wish to charge their batteries, fire up the engines and drive their cars. Therefore it has been decided to commence the 2005 coupe season in March.

The list of proposed events is as follows: -

18 ? 20th March Classic Cars Live held at Alexandra Palace. Currently we are in negotiations to have a BMWCC Coupe stand with a small display of cars.

Sunday 28th March @ 11am in the Ottershaw Public car park just off Junction 11 of the M25. The plan is to meet and greet and then depart at 12 midday and go for a leisurely drive through some of surrey?s country lanes to The Squirrel Inn at Hurtmore arriving at 1pm for some lunch.

Sunday 17th April @ 12 midday. Meet and greet at Newlands Corner. Newlands corner is a large public car park on the edge of the Surrey downs with lots of parking, great views and the Barn caf? opposite offering good food.

Sunday 22nd May @ 11am. Tattenham Corner public Car Park next to Epsom race course. The plan is to meet and greet and then depart at 12 midday and drive on a picturesque route to The Squirrel Inn Hurtmore for some of Surrey?s finest pub food meeting there at 1pm.

16 ? 19th June, Le Mans 24 hour. Weekend of GT car racing at the famous circuit. TBC. Subject to number of interested parties.

Sunday 26th June @ 11am Devils Punch Bowl. Meet and greet in the Devils Punch Bowl public car park, which is small. Depart at 12:30 and drive the short distance down the A3 to the Squirrel Inn Hurtmore ready for some lunch and chatting with any late comers.

Sunday 3rd July @ 9am. Retro Cars Show. Date is yet to be confirmed. Fine day out with retro cars magazine with many displays of modified classic. This is your chance to have a traffic light grand prix down the famous Santa Pod runway. Show them your license, pay your money and queue up, burn some rubber and collect your timing sheet. Amazingly good fun.

Sunday 17th July @ 12 midday. The New Inn Heckfield off junction 4 of the M3. The coupe sections old haunt with large car park, interesting roads and good pub food. Many a motoring story has been shared at this venue. TBC

Sunday 21st August @ 12 midday. Munich Legends East Sussex. Back by popular demand a meeting at one of the larger BMW independents. Meet and greet at their famous show room and then nip around the corner to the local pub for some food. TBC

Sunday 11th September @ 10am ? 5pm Brooklands Sharkfest. Last year there were 150 people, 70 cars and 37 six series. The aim of the event is to get as many big coupe to attend as possible. Ideally I would like to see 50 sixes, 50 eights and 50 cs?s all lined up on the famous Banking. Hopefully with enough trade interest there can be some specialist trade stands.

4th ? 6th November. The classic Motor show at the NEC Birmingham. The hope will be to have a BMWCC Coupe stand with a couple of the owners cars in display.

I would like to thank all the members who supported these events last year and hope that many more can attend this year. Although my primary interest is in the big coupes I welcome all owners of all BMW?s and look forwards to meeting you in the coming months of 2005.
