Suspension guru needed

Post by Son of boa »

I'm gona make my own coilovers
Once use items
It's only for track use
Ive orderd adjustable top mounts and the coil over spring seat kit
And can get a world of springs
Lengths
Lbs ratings
My plan
New insert
Cut old spring seat of sleeve cutting of 2in of sleeve
Fit shock
Weld shock in
Then sit over the 50mm ring coller
Weld the coller to the sleeve
The ring coller is 2in thus replacing the lengh lost
My question is
I can sort length
I'm trying to work out the lb spring
Wat lb is the standard spring or lower springs
Cheers

Use the search function, in the bar above right. Plenty of reading there. There's no reason for you to expect to be spoon-fed what has been discussed at length here.

Lol
Nice welcome to u to
Just Cus I'm
New don't think I'm
New to this site,me and my father have been on here for years
Reading and observing
Even putting a few very big posts of his alpina restoration and customise
I've read at great lengh
By looks wat I'm doing is a grey area
I'm not using the smaller Komi shock
I'm
Using bilsteins and custom sleeves
All I was after was the lb spring rate
So I cud spend less time on here and more time down my workshop
Actually working on a sixer
Dad told be after all the bull shit I had before on this forum wen posting his build up with people pulling up on grammar or spelling than actual build
I go down like a horse shit sandwich
I'm a workshop boy
Not a keyboard worrier
I simpley asked a question
No need to be rude
Cus now wen som one asks me the deffininition of a prick
Il always think of u
Guessing il be the shortest member on here
Il take my build and piss off
Nice one mate
Pat or self on ur back
Dad told me i was waisting my time trying to share my build in projects
Tooooooodlals :)

The question is not as simple as what spring rate should you use. We would need a WHOLE LOT MORE INFORMATION about your car and exactly what you are going to use it for, your driving style/experience to even suggest a spring rate.

You sure seem to have sent a lot of crap our way in such a short response by several members here that have a lot of knowledge they could share with you, but you seem to have a pretty big chip on your shoulder.

It would really be nice to read proper grammar. I know a lot of people are used to todays text shorthand, but us older motorheads need to read the text long hand.

Please take the time to read my tech thread, it might help put you on the right path.

Thanks.

Jon, I think he's building a stripped-out drift car from a salvaged Six. I kinda' shut down when he mentioned he planned to weld the shocks. Apparently, he will choose the perfect valving and never need to change them - or he's an idiot. I'm not sure which. Nonetheless, I don't plan to spend a lot of time digging up answers that are already here for him.

Chris / Jon
Thank u
Very helpful
Was a good read as well
As for a chip
Yes wat 24 year old hasn't got a chip
Mines not big
Just got alot of them!!!

As for an idiot
Now,yeah maybe
But if a idiot is some one that builds cars and as had numerous magazine features and builds
And put wrong engines in wrong cars and even wrong driverrains
With months of fabrication
Then yes I'm a idiot
Just Cus I want to weld a shock
Not like no one or even companies don't do it
Oh wait no
I orderd a set of gaz coil overs for my other build
E46 with cosworth 4x4
So they made me ford base with e46 top
Welded together
Gaz wat a bunch of idiots
I've already spoke to gaz about this and this is how there proto kit was
They then changed
Only due to people hereing that myth
Oh welded shocks
Can't get them they sound dodgy
If u shut off at this
Wow welding and balancing my prop then
Must send u to sleep or hereing how I have to customise and move my steering box over 8mm Cus of the skyline engine angle of deck height to ratio balance is out
Any way
Il battle on my own and make my own learning curves and mistakes

My attitude
If it gose wrong
Learn from it
Start agen
And improve
Nothing is permanent

That's how car conversions go

I am a bit fuzzy on what you are trying to do and how you are trying to do it, but this might be interesting;

viewtopic.php?t=16960&highlight=bens+coilovers

You can make a very good coilover conversion without welding anything in permanently apart from the spring seat on the front leg. You can have a fair amount of distortion here and it won't cause any great difficulties.

BTW you probably know this but one thing you shouldn't do is weld to the outside diameter of a monotube damper assembly and expect it still to work. This means the outside of a bilstein rear or the outside of a front bilstein insert inner (chromed part). Anywhere the piston works inside, it has about a 0.1mm running clearance, and welding will cause more distortion that that. This is why a slide-on kit for rear dampers is a good idea.

So you can weld at the bottom end of a bilstein rear damper (it is 'just' high pressure gas inside...) if you are careful but that is about it.

Good luck with the conversion, anyway.

cheers

The reason making it a weld on kit
Is my top retaining nut for the shock was fucked and sheered of so il weld the insert in
I have no issue with this
If it fucks
Il Bin them no worries
So instead of buying new legs
Il give these ago and see if I can save my legs, dads brought me up ,give it ago first before u give up and throw the towel in

And if they don't work
Me and dad had a crack With a few beers and hadxa laugh together witch is the main part of the project
Cars just a excuse really lol

I no all about the welding of shocks
Use to do this stuff all the time in the army
Nothing time and patients with a good tig can't sort out
See it how it gose
If it works it works
If not
Owell

Had to check
Wat u sed Bruce in ur post that if I weld and distort the tube
The insert inner chrome part won't move freely
Well
I just chopped mine up and what I thought was correct
The outer wall on the shock behind this is not the chrome part or oil
But infact a 5 mm void
Then another insert
In that insert is the oil filled and chrome centre
So I can weld away and not have issues
Pics to show
Image
Shock as you all seen before

Image
Cut the shock in half to expose center
Image
Can u see how its a insert in a sleeve that is the shock body
Image
Image
Dose this and the pics show what I mean
?????

if they are monotube dampers there is usually no space behind like that. I'm thinking those are twin-tube dampers.

I can see where you are coming from with this, and I'll be interested to see how it comes out.

So let me ask you this: If you're going to do what you're going to do anyway, regardless of any advice you may get, why bother asking for a "Suspension Guru" when all you really want to do is indulge your ego?

This project may be interesting, but I agree with the calls to type in old-modern English and not like you are writing a haiku.

I've seen some of the work you've been doing, and it is very interesting, but very painful to read. If you want more help make it easier for people to want to help you...my 2 cents/pence or whatever other form of currency you like.

C.r.krieger and fellow members
Some who have posted
Some who have kept quiet and are judging me?
Heres a post for u
Being written on phone so won't be in sentances
Lol
Well heres my updated English for you
(Get a grip and grow a pair you cunt.)
That's directed to c.r.krieger
Two user names ??????
Might off guessed a lawyer
There two faced guessing gose with two user names :(

I think that would pass for good English,
But fuck this
Il spell how I like
Who the fuck are u to tell me other wise
I read other forums all the time
And read foreign posts
I can't understand what they say
But pictures say a thousand words
And a reply with a thumbs up or a smiley face
All people understand that
But here on this site
U have spelling police
Wtf!!!!!
We all have in common love for the sixer
But yet forums make people bitchy
I agree
I spat my dummy out but this forum brings it out off me
Wen I wad younger I documented my fathers alpina restoration
Oh guess wat ???
Yeah hold star for u
U guessed right, people give me grief over spelling
And back then I was taking time to write posts long and big reads
And did put effort into write propley
But yet people found holes to dig it

Forums make people very snidey and spiteful
Cus if I was face to face with som one
They wudnt talk to me like that
And well if they did
Well it would end in a/e

On other forums I've read posts worst than mine
But I look past it to see and admire there work
I couldnt care if u can't read or write
If u can work on a car and share
Credit!!!!
That's better than any grammar ???
Well to me it is
And being told my posts painful to read, get a grip
I som times read posts and think
This is painful to read, not due to the spelling but lack of mechanical skills
But I don't post up
Saying?
( keep up the good spelling but sort you're mechanic skills)
How rude wud that be
Me I'm the type that would help
On other forums I've driven over 200 mile to help a fellow member
It's called a passion for the sanme car
But I find this forum is fuck all like that
And then saying I'm gona do it regardless to any help
Well
Urm yeah corse I am
I didn't come on the post to ask permission?
My question was
If u read/ wat is the lb of springs on
A 6
Simple question
Cus in
Previous posts people quote to many lb
It was to speradic
So asked
And ego
Na not really got an ego
I no wat I can do
The people that matter to me
No wat I can do
My customers and demo cars
No wat I can do
The only car that I've had a ego over
Was wen I was younger with my fathers alpina
Proudest car I ever worked on
My best I ever done
I had an ego then but who wudnt knowing there working on one of the rarest sixers to a new level

Image
Image
Image

If I had a ego
Total BMW would have had by now
Dad gave the choice to me after we got offerd front page
Mag shoots more Hasel than they worth
We no wat we have tucked up in the garage
Why Shud others
U lot on here no/well som of u
And to be fair theres bigger and better resto projects in the shop at the min

Wat annoys me with this site
Is some one can be like
"hi I'm new
Here's my highline"
Post som pics?

Then every one is welcoming and sharing

Then the usal
Week later they post up
Got new wheels and polished it
Every one still licks arse
Then a few issues arise
So back on here for help
This is all good
Then u here no more!!!
There six failed mot
They cut there loses and get shot

Cus we all no these ain't cheap cars
And no mater who says other wise
There all ruster than they look

Fact!!!
All kiss rons arse
He says it all the time and its true

Wat looks a rust blister is rot
I don't no many people that cut there rear sills and jack points open

I had to and took pics to share?
So fellow members can get an idea of wat "" a little rust looks like wen u go digging for it""

And most sixers have that hiding
They rot inside out
My point is
I was sharing pics and info
So if Any one was lookin to do it
They have a ruff idea

But now I'm thinking why bother
My build might be a stupid idea to u and others
But it would have been intesting for u guys to see if there was any parts u cud take from it
Guessing not
Custom steering racks/arms
850 rear diff
Space frame gearbox tunnel?
Ect ect
But no
I shud just stick to a set of wheels and a polish?
Then ur all love me

My dad was right?
Ur a bunch of anal tossers
That are very spiteful?

He sed I would go down like a horse shit sandwich
?Guessing that's y he has fuck all to do with this site and stoped sorting the few shows he organised

Anyway
That's my two cents worth
Any way gona pop
Motorway nearly over

Toooodles xxxx xxxx

Here ya go, sonny: Doin' a favor for a guy I'd never met.. I won't bother telling you all I've done in the BMW CCA (not to mention IMSA, SCCA, and vintage racing) over the past 27 years because I don't think you're worth it.

I have two user names because I don't know how to type an umlauted 'o' or an 'esszet' on my phone (and consequently could not login). So, if it's 'C.R. Krieger', it's posted from my phone, like now. Otherwise, it's on my laptop or other computer. I have never called you a name, as you have done to me. Whether the site administrators decide to allow that is up to them; but I'd give you a 'time out'.

Yes; I'm a lawyer. I don't golf; but I can drop a gearbox, change a set of brake pads in 20 minutes (worked on a pit crew that could do it in two), or beat you in an autocross. How does that affect your implied stereotype of my profession?

P.S.: You may notice that typing on a phone does not require bad spelling nor poor grammar ...

An there the ego is new it was hiding :)
I wasn't trying to say it's the phones issue I don't spell and grammar
I just acociate quick abbreviated txt talk
The youth of today, yes I've been sucked into it

As for changing brake pads in 20 and droping a gearbox
That's not that impressive if like u sed u got 27 years over me
I'm only 24

If u said
Yeah I fitted a 6 speed tiptronic box to the six and can drop it quicker than most can a normal box

Then wow yeah
But wat u just sed is Piss poor from a pit crew/ex racer
I live the challenge of stuff that shudnt be
Guess the way I am now is Cus of the army
Pushed to be the best
And take no crap
I no I'm not the best
Far far far from it
I'm a little fish in a big sea

As for this forum
Think it's best I leave and not bother anymore
I clearly don't fit
And build won't be ever apriciated
Hope all hose well for the future
And many many hours of six happiness
Love ya bye xx

Really? We won a number of pro championships in IMSA and SCCA endurance racing around the time you were learning to walk. You could Google T.C. Kline Racing to see how many because I don't remember. I do remember T.C. mentioning that we won every 24 (hour race) we'd entered back around 1990. I guess that's "piss poor" in your book, though.

Would the administrators please put this guy on time out, or ban him from the site.

His language is not appropriate, not to mention his attitude.

We all try to help each other here and this guy just seems to want to vent his foul mouth.

His original question was answered in simply asking him to do a search. The answer is there. Then Chris gave him the answers.

But that doesn't seem to be good enough.

Thanks.

Don't go blaming a completely innocent piece of technology for his shortcomings. My posts under my name are all from a phone. He chooses to be that way and simply finds it convenient to blame the phone - just as he blames us for not getting any respect.

amongst a whole swathe of (mostly young) folk, ( 'yoof') the normal means of communication -in written form- is via text message. It has resulted in the development of a version of English that is... barely recognisable....

And not everyone is as good as one another at that even.

Poor communication is bound to lead to misunderstandings at times but I don't think slanging matches solve anything.

We all come on here because we all like 6ers; we don't all indulge our passion in the same way (and wouldn't it be dull if we did..?). Each to his own really.

There haven't been very many spats on here that I can recall; stark contrast to many other forums.

But even one feels like one too many to me.

cheers
