brake pad friction rating

Post by Brucey »

A lot of BMW pads are physically similar but have different BMW part numbers. I have always assumed that this is because the pads have different friction ratings, but I have not been able to identify what they are exactly.

However a lot of aftermarket pads are labelled with a friction rating, eg. 'GH' which would mean that the cold friction rating (G) is a bit less than the hot friction rating (H).

I took some E38 pads out a while back and the rears were labelled 'FF'

Does anyone know what friction ratings are recommended by BMW for various models?

Anyone got some stock pads they can check the friction ratings on?

cheers
