Technical question about suspension.

Post by ilouie »

  • Hi, I’ve just updated the suspension on my 85 e24 with new arms, and BIlsteins shocks and H&R lowering springs. My problem is that they were out of stock of the B8 shocks and I had to use B8 in the rear and B6 in the front. Now the front is sitting too high. The rears are perfect. I read on Bilsteins’ site site and it said that I could use the B6 to lower the car up to 30 mm. The H&R springs suppose to lower it by 31 mm. But, I can’t seem to get the front lowered. Would that be the issue?. I’m tryng to figure this out before I rip the suspension apart again. Ty..

As far as I know, when dropping the car, you should use Bil Sports, not heavy duty. Have you driven the car since installing the suspension? Chances are it will drop, but I don't know how much. The difference between HDs and Sports is the sports have a shorter shaft allowing the car to drop. The valving is the same between HDs and Sports

Thank you, but I don’t think they’ll drop anymore. These are sports, and not race springs. They did drop the car by 1.5...

I encountered a similar issue when I fitted H&R's, so ended up only retaining the rears. See below

I have Billy HD's with H&R sport springs (not race springs), no issues with ride height. The car lowered evenly. Check to make sure the springs are seated properly in the perches.
