Brake bomb
Hi there,
I have had the brake light flashing for a while (the one on the left of the warning lights in the right corner of the instrument cluster) so after reading on the forum, I decided to change the brake bomb.
Surprisingly easy, no need for outlandish tools apart from a massive plumber adjustable wrench to unscrew the bomb. I prised the latter in my vice and turned the regulator instead of the reverse after breaking a filter removal tool. Very easy in the end.
However, the light is still flashing although a lot less than before and only when driving along and when the road is less than smooth. It used to flash all the time, especially at start up but not anymore. So there is progress but I'm wondering what else I need to change or repair to stop it flashing continuously?
Any advice appreciated.

Re: Brake bomb
Are you sure you problem isn't simply a wear sensor for the brake pad? This will light up on the dash just like the brake fluid warning.

Re: Brake bomb
Hats off to you, it seems that unplugging the pad sensor and replugging it did the trick. No red flashing light, 1st time in a long time.

Re: Brake bomb
It's a different light for the pad warning sensor versus the bomb, just for info!

It tells you what each warning light is in the owners handbook. Have you not got one?
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!

monoi,
Good Ron,
I always try to tell members to get an owners handbook also.
If you are low on brake fluid (lid switch), that could also be it.

Re: Brake bomb
I have the owners manual, it's just that it is temporarily misplaced...
So it wasn't the pad sensor (truth be told, it was in perfect condition) but I drove the car 50 miles today on b roads with no red flashing light. I assume it took the system a while to get rid of trapped air maybe?
All is well now on that front, just that speed sensor annoyance.

There's a copy of the 88-89 owners manual in the Tech section, search "owners manual" if this link below doesn't open up. Roger

This is for US & Canada. There are some appreciable differences between that and the UK version.rhanley 635csi89 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 15, 2018 1:07 pm There's a copy of the 88-89 owners manual in the Tech section, search "owners manual" if this link below doesn't open up. Roger
