Power steering hoses

Post by Landsnark »

I'm changing the low pressure PS hoses on my 1987 M6 - everything that connects to the reservoir. They are 30 years old and leaking. I am aghast at the cost of what seems to be plain old (atf rated) hose. Like... $1 per inch. Does anyone know of a viable substitute? Is there a bulk hose source or an SAE equivalent?

Thanks all.

$1 an inch is cheap! I've seen 3x that much.

For the return lines? That's crazy! It appears that 1/4" and 5/16" are pretty close to the 6 and 8 mm, but the SAE equivalents for the other sizes (12 and 15 mm) aren't very close at all...

Do you want cloth covered or modern PS hose?

I'm less concerned about being absolutely original on something like this. I'm just looking for reasonably priced and durable. Looks like FCP Euro has some that are a little less expensive (Rein).

BavAuto.com has low-pressure hoses for $18.95 (16mm) and $14.95 (12mm) per meter...

My advice is to pay whatever you need to, and get factory hose. I tried 3 different brands, and they all leaked. Put on a factory piece, dry as can be.
