Technique for Changing My Diff Mount

Post by sansouci »

Hi,
My 84 633Csi/auto needs a new diff mount. Two possible techiques but I want to know which is best:
If I put the rear up on ramps, I may be able to put a small floor jack under the diff to manage it.
OR
If I put the chassis up on jack stands, that would unload the rear suspension and then use the floor jack to manage the position of the diff.
Which is the better, safer method?

My method:

Jack up the car by the diff. Insert jack stands under the subframe rail that goes all the way across the car, just inside of the dogbones. Lower the car on jack stands. Support diff lightly as the differential bolt is removed. Remove diff mount hardware and replace.
