Suspension replacement

Post by Kiwisholland »

I’m new here, and appreciate all the info I’ve gathered so far.

I’m replacing the struts and springs, and the control arms and some other front end parts on my ‘83 633. I have the Bentley e28 manual, and I’ve got some questions that I’d appreciate advice on.

When removing the steering arm mounting bolts, the manual mentions using red Loctite to reinstall the bolts. Does that mean the factory bolts have Loctite? Will I need to heat the bolts to remove them? I’ve seen videos that show using blue Loctite. Is red recommended?

Also, the manual lists suspension loading requirements when tightening the strut bolts. Are the weights the same for an e24?

Thanks in advance

When I've removed the steering arm bolts a little heat helps. Most I've removed in the past have some type of loctite product on them. I've removed with out heat and have never broke a bolt but it's not worth the trouble if you do. Get out the Torch.

As for installation; I'll run a tap through the strut threads and add some red locite to the bolts on assembly.

Rod had a good page for suspension installation below..
