Post by Ronnie Wilson »

Hi Guys

Are all front Suspension Struts the same or as with alot of parts pre 06/1982 cars there are slight differences. Basically can i fit a 1982 front Strut to a 1986 Car.

Thanks

They are different from 5/82. So basically the answer is no, you can't fit an early strut to a later car.
They are ALWAYS rustier than you thought!!!!!!

Ronnie; the main reason it can't be done is because the '82 is probably an E12 suspension but, your '86 is definitely an E28 in the chassis department! You can of course, double check to see if your '82 is an E12, that's what I did to confirm stuff years ago.
I say that because my Buster is an '82 which is the cross-over year, which means BMW began to change over from my E12 to your E28 chassis during that year's run. E28 chassis was in full bloom in '86.
Go to realoem & enter your vin to confirm what we say? Good Luck

Ps; If you can get the vin for the '82, that would help you a whole lot!
