Powder Coating the P/S Reservoir?
Anyone have any experience refurbing the P/S reservoir by powder coating it?

Not to sure about transmission fluid, but powder def won't hold up to brake fluid, or spray brake cleaner, and I have my doubts about trans fluid. For a spray coating that's solvent resistant go to:sansouci wrote:Anyone have any experience refurbing the P/S reservoir by powder coating it?

If you want to go all the way, maybe find a chrome re-plating shop?
I'm just throwing stuff at you, I haven't had it done. Sounds good to me though!
Good luck & let us know your progress, please,,,Greg

That's just spray can paint, looks good but any fluids will trash it over time, high solvent fluids will wash it right off. IMHO86_6series wrote:I'm sure you'll find something that will work from Eastwood.

Done plenty of the yellow zinc here in Atlanta. Replate calipers and various hardware often. Looking to add the process in house and should have it going before the end of the year. Otherwise; there are a few sources to have it done currently.
Alpina B9 coupe (Alpinweiss)
Alpina B9 sedan (Alpinweiss)
Alpina B6 clone in process (Alpinweiss)
Mini S (had to go: it was Electric Blue)
Rover Disco 1 (Alpine White)

Re: Powder Coating the P/S Reservoir?
In my experience, having had several sets of brake calipers powdercoated, it's absolutely impervious to brake fluid and cleaning solvents. Take a look at this set I'm just rebuilding, which has had plenty of exposure to both:slofut wrote:Not to sure about transmission fluid, but powder def won't hold up to brake fluid, or spray brake cleaner, and I have my doubts about trans fluid. I can buy that, but not all powdercoat is the same.dwcains wrote:In my experience, having had several sets of brake calipers powdercoated, it's absolutely impervious to brake fluid and cleaning solvents. Just like 2k spray urethanes, there are different types and grades. Many PC shops (especially around here) use the lesser grades and they look good but don't stand up to solvents. Just had an issue like this last year getting some parts powdered. Finish would go dull when wiped with a rag and spray carb cleaner and would come off on the cloth.
I'm just saying, if you're going to expect a solvent resistant pc finish, be sure of who you're dealing with and that they use the right stuff. In that case I'd surely go PC as you can't really hand paint parts properly for what it costs to powdercoat. I should have qualified my previous statement to start with instead of generalizing.
Those calipers look killer btw...
