Hi all,
#4 port is leaking, my first question is on procedure, can I slip the rear manifold off, change 3 gaskets and call it a day? What other hardware should I replace or upgrade (copper nuts, etc.)?
I plan on buying from Ultimate Garages liquidation, just trying to make a shopping list (my local dealership is giving me static as usual).

Karmann, German for extra rusty.
I recently had number 6 gasket fail and whilst I was always planning to change the manifold as it had a small crack in it I don't think you be able to change just the rear gaskets without removing the entire manifold.
I think your shopping list should be the six manifold gaskets and also the downpipe gasket. You might want to try soaking then cracking each of the manifold nuts before the day you change them all to establish any problem nuts - I did and just one nut was problematic.
Doing this will help your job on the day and also help you choose how many manifold nuts you think you need - for the cost it's probably worth replacing them all, as well as the three downpipe nuts, but everyone has their budget.
If you are going to try and split the manifold there's another 3 nuts and another seal/gasket that will need buying.
Good luck.

I prefer the heat shield gasket that is one gasket for the rear 3 and one for the front. I think you have a different setup from what sharkfan has mentioned as his is a RHD application.

I'd agree with the advice on trying the nuts before you go all out. A daily soak of Wurth Rost Off or similar for a week or so could be beneficial.
One of the studs on mine snapped flush and was pretty much un-pull-out-able, even with a specialist stud extractor called in. So it ended up being a remove head job, new h/g etc etc

Re: Exhaust manifold gasket
Hello All;
I am seeking the best copper exhaust gasket for my e24.
Does anyone know where I could find this gasket?
Thanks
Brian

Did you source out the copper exhaust gasket? I am looking for that before I strip my turbo off the manifold.
Thanks;
Brian
