Anyone need Sanden/Seltec AC compressor brackets?

Post by dwcains »

Recently found this thread in mye28:

http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?f=3& ... 5#p1260296

I was able to convert the PDF plan into a DXF and found a place which can cut the brackets using a waterjet. Material is 1/4" T-304 stainless steel, and approx cost per piece is $18. This is my actual cost, if I order 10-49 pieces, and each car needs 2 brackets, so I'm guessing I can send anyone in the US a set for ~$42 via USPS Priority Mail. Cost drops down to $14 per piece for 50-99, but I can't imagine that much interest will materialize. If I only buy a pair for myself, the cost is $92 each, so that's not happening, either. All the pieces must be ordered together to get the price breaks, i.e., I can't order 12, and then 2 weeks later order 4 more at that same per piece price. This will be an all-or-nothing, one-time buy, so if you're interested, let me know ASAP. After I order the parts, the shop can ship them in about a week, and then when I have them I'll ship to you guys them within a day or two. I'm thinking about a close date for this project of Sunday May 10, so I can order the parts on Monday the 11th.

Please post to this thread if you're firmly interested in buying a set of these brackets. Please also read the mye28 thread carefully and decide if these will work for you, as I'm not responsible for any issues you may run into. The Sanden 508 compressors are easily found on eBay, and I bought one for $113 shipped just the other day. Amazon has them, too.

Sorry, but I can't do international shipping on these, as I don't have the time to stand in line at the post office. For US mail, I can print labels at home and just have the boxes picked up from my doorstep.

Here's my list so far for my waterjet-cut brackets, so it looks like this is a go.

1) dcains (me)
2) eric1ono (bimmerforums)
3) Sansouci (bimmerforums)
4) Maaaate (2 sets - mye28)
5) demetk (3 sets - mye28, and thanks to Jim for designing these brackets)
6) BlackBetty (bigcoupe)
7) slofut (bigcoupe)
8) espoe (2 sets - bimmerforums)
9) az533 (3 sets - mye28)

That gets us over our 10-piece price break, but we'll wait until 5/10 and see what happens. This offer is also posted on bimmerforums.com, and mye28.com.

Interested, so am I to assuming correctly that the brackets you are selling are similar to to ones posted in the "mye28" link by users "Demetk " and "reesesboot"?

These brackets are the ones designed by Jim (demetk on mye28), except they'll be a bit prettier - waterjet cut stainless steel. I can't wait to order them, but I promised to wait until 5/10 so everyone who's interested has a chance.

Thanks, Pete. I'll add you to the list. I won't ask for payment until we have a final tally, as there is a slim chance we might hit another break-point on the price.

Welcome to the party. PayPal will be fine, and I'll work on the payment details when the final tally is done.

BTW, the first set is $42, but each extra set is only $36, since I'll be shipping them out in a USPS Priority Mail flat rate box. That makes 15 sets, so far. If we get to 25 sets by 5/10, the price will go own a bit more, as there is another price break from the machine shop for 50 pieces.

An other idea of a/c adjustment brackets

Post by bpoliakoff »

My Seltec pump bolted up perfectly to the BMW engine mount and the pulleys were in alignment.. My problem was the adjustment brackets. If done as a straight slotted bracket, regardless of whether or not the slot was on the engine side or the compressor side, due to the way the mounting wings are on the compressor, I couldn't get enough clearance for adjusting. I didn't want an "erector set" look and wanted everything simple and mechanical looking. So here is what I came up with. The only thing out of the ordinary, was the hi point of the arc was on top rather than on the bottom. The way I am able to adjust now, gives me enough movement that I can use different sized belts if the need arises.

I'm in for a set, IF dwcains or someone else can confirm this will work for the S38 as well as the M30. Although the compressors are the same p/n on RealOEM, annoyingly I can't find a bracket drawing in RealOEM for my M6 (build 9/87) that corresponds to the one for the 9/87 635i I've copied below. Can anyone find this drawing, or even better confirm from experience that the brackets are the same?

I wish I could help you, but I've never peeked under an M6 to have a look at how the compressor is mounted. If you can have a look yourself, and need some measurements from my bracket (which is off the car right now), I'd be happy to do that. FWIW, I'm going to order the brackets first thing Monday AM, and I'll need payment by Sunday night, so have a look at your car today, if you can.

PT,

Realoem, shows the same part #, when you search by part #, as the m635, s38.
Though it does not list the m6, just an error.
