How does the cruise control work on the earlier L-Jetronic cars.
I've looked at the parts diagrams and see where the system gets it's speed info (speedo cable trigger), but can't see how it controls the throttle.
Also wondering, was there a mechanical reason why it was not available on manual trans cars early on?

Hi Mike, think the original cruise on the early cars was vacuum powered?? I can't recall where I heard this so happy to be wrong.
On my (now long sold) E12/ E24 I retrofitted the cruise control from a E32 7er (with an M30 of course, so matching throttle), but using a proper early E24 control stalk.
This involved getting a speed signal generator (inline in the speedo cable), converting that signal into a square wave signal suitable for the E32 cruise computer and fitting the actuator into the engine bay with a crafted bracket.
And it worked! (not sure I was really expecting it to be as easy as it ended up being)
