M30 engine mounts same as M88?

Post by Tazzarti »

I have a 1981 633 that i will be taking the motor out of and putting it in a newer (unsure of the year yet) m6 (with euro bumpers). I was wondering if the motor mounts are the same or will I just need to take the crossmember with the engine?

Thanks.

So, your wanting to put a m30b32 from a 633i into a M6 body?

Or you are putting a S38 engine in a 633i Body?

E24 changed fundamentally at 5/82 build date, so engine mounts are different and won't either line up or even bolt on to the motor (although they might work on the left side if you are lucky).

Nor will the crossmember bolt into the chassis without a lot of work; the suspension is completely different and so is the steering.... basically you are trying to transplant a load of E12 stuff into an E28 bodyshell; they are almost entirely different (and essentially unrelated) cars which happen to share some engine similarities (not that many).

You would be much better off getting an M88 or an S38 to put into the M6.

I have seen an M88 put into a pre 5/82 E24 shell; now that was a project that had a happy outcome, IIRC they put the E28 style suspension in front and rear too. Lots of work though.

cheers
