Joe, I realize you probably like the guy, and he may be great at other jobs, but I think you need to seriously consider taking it to a different mechanic. Preferably one that specializes in older BMWs. Your current one has had three swings plus at it so far and still seems to be clueless.

Hello all.
Sorry been away. The nonsense continues. So the ecu was suspected to be at fault. Taken out and was damp inside. Was dried out and put back in the car and it was up and running again. It then died on the mechanic again so he believes the ecu is faulty. Does anyone near me cambs uk area have a working ecu i can borrow to see if it as fault or not and then buy off them if my one is damaged. Hope that makes sense.
1 month without the 6 now.
Many thanks

there are several different ECUs used in 635s and 1984 is a changeover year. You need to say which one you have at present really.

BTW it is difficult (actually, impossible) to guide you to a solution unless you are

a) able to describe the symptoms accurately ('it died' doesn't give any clues really...) and

b) able to say what exactly your bloke has been doing.

cheers

Sorry Joe, I could have told you this.

For info, the ECU is usually referred to by the last three digits, so you're rocking an 061. There are lots of this type kicking around, I've got a spare if the uk is caught in the middle of an unexpected 061 drought.

Cheers,

Rob

I hope so. The guy took the ecu out and it was damp. He dried it out but still no joy. The mystery continues.

Wow, Damp ECU would be of huge concern to me. And VERY good reason to suspect there might be an issue there. How did it get "damp"

Wow! Seemingly dead topic reanimated! I wonder if it ever got sorted :-k

ECU probably got wet due to leaky 'screen seal in the rh corner.
