different size fuel tanks HELP
hi I am wondering what were the different sizes of fuel tanks?
thanks,
thanks,
Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
I only know of the stock 14 gallon, and a unique touring tank that I recall seeing in Bobbo's beautiful, green machine. I think he said it holds 3 more gallons.
Got any more info. to share on that, Bobbo? Or am I hallucinating a discussion ...... yet again. Getting old sucks ......

Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
I ask this because when I do the s38 swap If possible I will want a bigger tank!
Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
The Euro cars have a bigger tank. The US-cars have the smaller tank because of the clearance needed for the larger bumper supports.

Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
ok so my 633csi has the biggest tank since it is a uk car!
Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
That's what I've heard - only the US has the smaller tank. Not sure about what happened to tank size when the "world" bumpers showed up.

and WHY is this question in the workshop?!?
griffo, PLEASE, try and use the correct forum for your questions
For the record, I am going to move this thread, but we have lost a few in the process, even though I will leave this one behind, or whatever it's called
Oh, Jose, not sure where you got that idea that I have some sort of "touring tank", but I've got whatever is stock, 14 gallons I think
Now from what I recall, the Euro fuel gauges top out at 70 Liters, which is a good bit more than 14 gallons, so maybe it is true that the use of US bumpers required smaller tanks

Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
My 1987 M6 only takes 14 gallons. I have tried running it almost bone dry before and haven't ever exceeded 15 gals.

Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
My Euro is supposed to have a 70-liter tank, which converts to 18.5 US gallons.

No - '85 635 CSi Euro with the dirty M30. Both M and CSi have the same fuel gauge, though.

Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
If your car is a Euro import then yes. If it was imported from Japan then no, it will have a 63L tank.

Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
yea shes a possible hallmark special imported from Germany to canbera were it lived until i got it!
Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
It won't have been a 'Hallmark special imported from Germany' as the 'Hallmark' cars were a UK only marketing ploy; it will have been a UK car.griffo wrote:yea shes a possible hallmark special imported from Germany to canbera were it lived until i got it!

Re: different size fuel tanks HELP
it was uk but went to Germany then to Canberra.
hense the uk bmw club badge.
its had a rough life and when it came to oz it got a shitty paint job and a set of lovell coil overs and anti sway bars.
i am in the mist of talking to the club but if amyone has any info on a RESEDA GREEN HALLMARK SPECIAL in the uk or Canberra please tell me. maybe someone may know the car through friends. at the end of the day its a small world!
