On Board Computer Issue

The On Board Computer in my 1989 635csi is not working. The display seems to "glow" a little with the ignition "on" but nothing is displayed. I also noticed that the red light on the MPH button doesn't illuminate if I press it. I bought this car from the original owner with 240k miles - only had it a couple of weeks. Any suggestions for things to check or is this a simple "replace the whole unit" sort of solution? THANKS!

Jay - thank-you. The light bar seems to "glow" when I turn on the ignition ... but I see your point.

Hi,

Mine has just had the same issue start although I have just taken the whole dashboard off disconnecting all the electrics, might be worth unscrewing the dash and check the wires are all connected. When I put mine back together over the weekend I will update you

If you're going to replace the light bar, I would recommend using one of the LED replacements which are now available. Garagistic sells one, as well as a few other vendors on eBay, or you can make your own (as I did). There are a few sites with instructions that can be found with a Google search.
