3/82 633csi Fuel pump relay

Post by sharkade »

Its a 3/82 633csi with a no start issue. it came with both a 533i 0 261 200 008 and a 0 261 200 028 528e ecu

Main relay location above glove box
Fuel pump relay is 5 prong

With the ignition switched to on
i get power from main relay/injector valves to 85 on relay (rd/wt)
I get power from the #1 fuse to 30 on relay(gn/yl)
And there is continuity between ecu pin 20 and 85 on relay(gn/br) which i see about 10v on with relay inserted and ign on, on the ecu side! is that right? Doesn't the ecu actuate the relay by closing a ground?

However there is no power to fuel pumps from 87 on relay. Instead it directs power through 87a, (Grn/vi) purge valve relay i think im not sure i have to trace that line. I have tried 3 other 5prong relays with the same results.

If i jump 30 & 87 on the relay, my pumps kick on.

Earlier on trying to start the car. upon ign on, the pumps would turn on and stay on, until ign off. This happened twice. And hasn't since.

As you can see above my wiring was a bit off, the manual shows 30 as gn/yl and 86 as rd/wt. Unlike above. They both push 12v and the gr/yl line was in fact thicker than the rd/wt, so i swapped them to correspond with the manual.

Power between 85 and ecu line 20??!? Can someone post a pic of wiring on fp relay thanks. i think i see my problem.

My Euro Spec 81 635 is doing something like this . If I jump the Main relay I get Gas and the car will run. I tried 3 relays and they wont work. Thank GOD the Car stopped running in my Driveway. So should I buy a new Realy and see what happens ???? or is there something else going on ?

yours isnt anything like mine, also my main relay is in the glove box next to the dmu and not in the engine bay.

my guess is you have an early 81. do you have a 001 ecu, is it a non o2 car?

or 002.

after a bit much more research, i was wrong about my 6 coming with a 002 dmu. They were specifically for early euro 6ers. supposedly the 008 is what i need. which means i might have a bad ecu or something else i dont know of yet.... more research and tests underway

I think mine had an 008 I switched it out to a 179 and a W.A.R Chip years ago. It had a Cat when I got it. That was the first thing I did was to cut the Cat off.

My FUEL relay or something is acting up again .after I drive a Mile or so ,my 6er shuts off . I switched relays and drove off . A few Miles later the same thing. I had a 5 prong relay in ,instead of a 4 prong I drove off and about every have Mile my 6er would JERK like it needs FUEL or Spark. I think its a Fuel Problem . Its weird how my 6er had a 5 prong relay where a 4 prong relay should go ever since I bought it in 2005. Any Ideas on whats going on here??????

I would find and fix the problem, check the fuel pump and main relays, replace them if possible. if your car has one check the obc relay. Thats the limit of my knowledge on the subject. Are you getting spark? Charge the battery and check for spark. I know its not what you are dealing with but im having a no spark no fuel issue. Hopefully someone with greater experience can chime in.

Got it running yesterday, it was a bad ecu. 12 years of sitting and it started right up.

Buellrider take a look at viewtopic.php?t=16943 it was a great guide to my no start issue. Pay attn to the main and fuel pump relays. In my case both were double output relays, and the fp relay has 30 and 86 swapped. I found changeover relays in both locations making things quite confusing.
