M88 vs S38
Can someone confirm for me whether the S38B35 is physically longer to cater for the dual-row chain, or would an S38B35 cam carrier bolt up to an M88/3 block and head?
Re: M88 vs S38
Hi Dan
They are different by about 6mm. The difference is in the head, cam box, valve cover and timing chain chest. I had one of each at the same time and measured them both. You can see the difference if you look at a picture of the valve cover and compare the front section where the oil filler cap is located on an S38, it can't fit there on an M88. If you need a new cam box it might be cheaper/easier to pick up all the S38 parts and sell your head.
Cheers
Dave

Re: M88 vs S38
Thanks dave, so the M88 block would mate up to the S38 head and cam carrier as long as the S38 timing chain cover is used?

I believe this is correct Dan. Has anyone on here done this?
Here is a thread that looks to be the vice versa set up.
