M90 Valve Guides

Post by Sechserreihe »

Hi. I've sent sent out my head (M90 block- Euro '78 635CSi) for a valve job and have been advised that I need 6 exhaust valve guides and a complete set of seals. Problem I'm having is finding a set of stock (14.20mm) guides and not an oversized set. I'm only seeing (+0.1) available.
Can someone shed some light on this? I'm trying to avoid having the shop machine the head to make these fit.

VIN: 5545515
Year: 1978

Thanks,
Mark

In for this answer as well.

From RealOEM:
Valve Guide...........................14,30MM(+0,1)....11121713406
Valve Guide ..........................+0,10MM............11121266760
Valve Guide........................... +0,30MM...........11121266762
REPAIR KIT VALVE SEAL RING...... D=10,8MM..........11349059169

I plan to bring my head to an S38 engine builder tomorrow and will try to ask him his thoughts on the guides and old/new version seals. In his latest correspondence:
the valve guides must be replaced to accommodate the late style valve seals. I never use the early style valve seals and believe they are no longer available anyway.

I know on American engines they use generic valve guides and then hone the insides to the correct diameter for the valve stem. Seems to me as long as the od and length are correct it makes sense it will work

I had my entire engine re built in a shop that predominantly rebuilds competition US engines. I know the only problem he had was he had to order the valve cover gasket 2X
