flywheel position

Post by 86_6series »

Trying to solve a timing problem.

Should the reference pin on the flywheel align at the pick up probe @ TDC.

If so, would that be cylinder #1 or does the ecu use another for reference.

Thank you

there is a separate TDC mark on the front pulley damper (in German, see workshop manual for translation). There is also an electronic sensor on the front pulley which is there purely for diagnostic purposes, so you could use that if you wanted to.

cheers

Brucey,

I think I should have been more detailed.
We have the front pulley aligned with diagnostic probe.
#1 piston @ TDC.
We need confirmation that the pin of the flywheel should align
with the reference magnetic pick up.

If not, how should the flywheels reference pin index to the pick up.

I know that the flywheel should bolt up only one way.

Well, it's the should that could be a problem.

thanks

IIRC, there is a hollow dowel that locates the flywheel, with one of the bolts passing through it - I cannot remember if the bolt holes themselves are timed. Is it possible that the dowel has come adrift, meaning that it is possible to misalign the flywheel?

I'm afraid I haven't got ready access to a car on ramps to check the reference lug on the flywheel (the lug itself can go missing, too, of course).

Yep,

We're dropping the tranny to make sure the flywheel is indexed correctly.

Thanks
