Speedometer Repair recommendations

Post by Pat_M635csi »

I have an '85 M635csi w/ 122k that one day the speedo and odometer stopped working. All else on the dash works. Fuse is good, sending unit off diff. has signal, gears are fine. Has anyone used North Hollywood Speedo? I used them many years ago for a tach on my tii but not since.

Any suggestions appreciated.

No. Hollywood or Palo Alto speedometers. Although they are both robbers, their work is first class.

I went through quite the trials and tribulations with my speedo. Ultimately for me, it was a cold solder joint. After years, the solder had gotten separated from the wire. Re-flowing the solder fixed it.

Before you tear into it, was there a time when it was intermittent or seemed to change with the temperature? My speedo would work and not work depending on temp! When it was warm the expansion made enough contact and the speedo would work. When it got cold, it contracted and the speedo was dead or intermittent.

In any case, I got real good at removing the instrument cluster! Good luck.
