Engine Running Hot in Traffic

Hello, the engine is running hot in traffic. Coolant level is full. As soon as I get some fresh air and out of traffic needle goes back to normal range. Any type of stop and go traffic the engine is running hot. Any ideas?

Sounds like the fan clutch to me

There is a way to test it with a rolled up newspaper, never tried it as it sounds like you may make a mess

But try to stop the fan with the engine idling and warmed up, if you can stop the fan, the clutch is shot

+1 on it being the fan clutch. Classic symptoms.

Clutch on fan,
They gum up, cleaned a couple with non chlorinated brake cleaner, the last on my Son's e32, used a piece of brake line tubing, bent a u shape on one end, was able to slide on a straw on other end, the one that comes with the can, sprayed front off fan clutch, was able to use same tubing with blowgun to hit area with com pressed air, repeated couple times, clutch fan was operable again

Sorry for the delay in response. Below is what was done to resolve the issue.

Leaking Thermostat replaced
Ignition coil replaced
Replaced defective fan speed resistor
Replaced coolant thermostat
Replaced radiator viscous fan clutch
Replaced Crank position Sensor
