M30 b35 rough idle.

Post by e24nut »

Hi my 89 e24 performs great but has always had a rough idle. When you hit the gas it pulls and revs fine especially at the sweet spot of 4000rpm. My bmw mechanic, bm tech in Melbourne advises that the m30 idles roughly by nature and that this is as good as it gets. Anyone else have this issue?

Mine likes to lope a bit at idle (about 700-750rpm for me), but it doesn't stumble over itself or acts like it's about to die, and it pulls and revs very happily like you described. I think it's the nature of the beast, but you can check all your rubber vacuum lines and intake boots for cracks or disconnections.
