highline cutting out

So after nearly nine years off the road i took my 89 highline for a gentle 30 mile drive, it aseptic till took it to a local forecourt to give it a wash, i waited in the queue for my turn and when i went to start it it started then died after a few seconds, this happened a few times then all dash lights came on but nothing when i turned the key !! its electrical but thats my only clue, i put jump leads on it and it started right away then died, after waiting a while it started and it stayed running so managed toget it home

Can anyone shed some light on this problem ??

Check the voltage at idle. Sounds like the alternator may not be working. With a jump or a rest, the battery recovers enough to start the car.

Excellant, will try that, its been mot,d since april but this started when i went to collect from mot centre, will check and post my findings
